Tamil Nadu beat Karnataka by 5 wickets, moves top of table

Margao: A mesmerising spell by spinner Aprajit, who claimed six wickets, propelled Tamil Nadu to beat Karnataka by five wickets and move at the top of the table of the South Zone U-19 Vinu Mankad Trophy for the limited overs, played at Nehru Stadium, Fatorda here on Saturday.

Karnataka plan to bat first after winning the toss got misfired as they failed to the guile of spinner Aprajit to be all out for 176 in 49.2 overs.

Sashandra (33) and Shishir Bhavani (58) who steadied the innings after the early fall of opener Samarth R(15).

But once they fell apart to Aprajit, wickets tumbled at regular interval with Dinesh Borovankar(23) and Shreyass Gopal (21) put up some fight in the end to help Karnataka to reach 176.

Aprajit who bowled impressively claimed six wickets.

While Ashwin, Mohammed and Bharat K took one wicket each.

Set a target of 177 to win, Tamil Nadu over hauled the target scoring 178 for five in 42.3 overs.

P Indrajit played the sheet anchor role to remain not out on 48 runs.

Bharat K(26), V Gangaraju(24), Aprajit(20), Anirudh K(22) and Nilesh Raju(20) added valuable runs.

Zeeshan Ali was the most successful bowler for Karnataka who took three wickets for 25. While Karun Nair and S Gopal claimed one wicket each.

The win took Tamil Nadu at the top of the table with 18 points from four matches.

Karnataka who suffered their first defeat remained behind them on 15 points from as many matches.
