Tamil Nadu hope to continue good work against Saurashtra
Rajkot: The formidable Tamil Nadu team will like to log home full points against minnows Saurashtra in a crucial Super League (Group A) match of the Ranji Trophy, starting at Saurashtra Cricket Stadium in Khandheri.
Hosts Saurashtra who are struggling in both departments will have to play cautiously after losing their second match against Gujarat in Surat.
Tamil Nadu skipper Dinesh Karthick said, “We have had a good opening match against Assam and did well in patches against Delhi although we could manage only a point. We are confident to continue our good work in this game against Saurashtra.”
The leading Tamil Nadu players are in good form as senior pro S Badrinath and opener Abhinav Mukund have contributed well with the bat scoring century and half century in earlier games respectively while Sunil Sam and R Aswhin showed their good form by taking wickets.
Skipper Karthick, Badrinath and Mukund will be shouldering the batting responsibility while bowling department would be spearheaded by Ashwin with the support of Sunil Sam and Yo Mahesh.
Hosts Saurashtra got a point in their opening match against formidable Mumbai but failed to save a match against Gujarat at Surat even after taking 70-run first inning lead.
Captain Jaydev Shah admitted that the team will have to play this match cautiously after losing the previous game.
“The opposition side is very strong and some of their players have played for India and we well have to be more watchful to improve our points,” Shah said.
Jaydev Shah, seasoned Sitanshu Kotak, Pratik Mehta and Chirag Pathak will be entrusted to put in runs on board while Jayesh Odedara will share the new ball with Sandip Maniar.
