Duncan on look-out for youngsters who can handle Test cricket
London: India`s humiliating series loss to England has led to calls of infusion of young blood in the team and coach Duncan Fletcher is on the look-out for youngsters who can handle Test cricket.
Abhinav Mukund, who played in two of the three Tests in the series, and Suresh Raina failed to impress and Yuvraj Singh made a half-century before being injured in the lone Test he featured in.
"I`m trying to settle in and see characters of individuals," Fletcher said during the third Test at Edgbaston.
Fletcher seemed to be concerned about the progress of the next generation of cricketers who would take over the responsibility of the Indian team once the likes of Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid and VVS Laxman retire.
"I am especially looking at the young guys and trying to assess if they have character to handle Test cricket," he was quoted as saying.
According to a newspaper, Fletcher is relaxed and enjoying working with Mahendra Singh Dhoni even if the Indian captain chooses to ignore bowling plans and act on whims.
The newspaper also said that India were also unlucky in the third Test at Edgbaston as both Rahul Dravid and Sachin Tendulkar were unlucky in the second innings. Dravid was out off his bootlaces and Tendulkar run out backing up.
