Fans support Sachin`s decision not to tour Windies

Port Of Spain: The West Indies cricket is in such a shamble that even die-hard fans feel that Sachin Tendulkar`s decision to keep away from the tour is a correct one.

"He could have had his 100th international century and perhaps two more, given the shambles in which West Indian cricket is. Instead, he wants to save it against worthy opponents in England and at stadia which would be overflowing to see him in action for perhaps one last time," said a fan, who was trying to buy tickets at Queen`s Park Oval here for the first two ODIs between India and the West Indies.

"At 38 when most batsmen look for cheap runs, Sachin would rather help himself and India in a prestigious series than against the West Indies," he added.

Tendulkar opted out of the tour of the West Indies in order to spend time with his family. However, he will be available for the tour of England.

"He perhaps knows that even a second string Indian side would be enough to take care of the West Indies presently," said another fan.

India would play a T20 International, five-match ODI series and three Tests against the West Indies, starting June 4.

Tendulkar, who has scored 620 runs from 10 Test matches, which includes a hundred and five fifties, at an average of 47.69 in the Caribbean, is now just a century away from scoring his 100th international ton.
