Football fraternity inspired by WC triumph, says Bhaichung

Kolkata: Indian football captain Bhaichung Bhutia along with former stars of his fraternity congratulated Dhoni`s army for their World Cup triumph and hoped that other sports too are benefited from this inspirational victory.

Bhutia, who is busy with his newly-launched United Sikkim FC, said he watched every bit of India`s match and they celebrated the success like any other Indian.

Former Olympians P K Banerjee, Chuni Goswami, acclaimed coach Syed Nayeemuddin too joined in the chorus and hoped that the cash-rich cricketers come forward and help out the cash-starved Olympic sport.

Bhutia said, "Cricket is doing very well at the moment. I hope the achievement inspires many youngsters and for a more sport-oriented India. It will unite the entire India. Hope this will inspire us to become a better sports oriented nation."

"It`s a great victory for Team India and for all Indians. It`s really a great moment. The best thing was how Dhoni led the side to victory. It was wonderful to see his great leadership quality."

Hailing Dhoni`s leadership qualities, Bhutia said, "I think he is an all time great leader. The way he handled pressure by remaining cool and composed will inspire many.

"One thing that was very special about the Team India was how the entire team backed each other. It was never one individual brilliance but everybody contributed to team`s cause when required.

"If the batsmen failed, the bowlers did the job and if the bowlers failed the batsmen were up for the challenge. It was really inspiring to see such a great team effort. We all celebrated. It was a proud moment for all of us," Bhutiaadded.

Former great P K Banerjee said he was proud to have witnessed the glorious moments of 1983 and 2011 and praised Dhoni for his leadership qualities.

"It will inspire the youngsters. Dhoni has proved that unlike others he is not short-tempered. He proved a point. He silenced his critics. Nothing succeeds like success. He also has a stroke of luck."

But Banerjee said the the 1983 triumph was the greatest moment.

"That was something fantastic. I distinctly remember Kapil Dev`s brilliant catch to dismiss Vivian Richards. It was something unbelievable," Banerjee said.
