Mohammad Ashraful began the day with an audacious stroke as he attempted a reverse sweep off Dilshan. The ball just missed the edge but the Lankans were convinced of one as they appealed for a catch. The umpire turned it down. Ashraful, then dropped the chance to become the first Bangladeshi to score a Test double ton as he was caught by Mathews off Herath (Over: 140.2). He came down the track attempting to play one over covers but ended up edging it to first slip. He scored 190 (417b, 4X20, 6X1). Nevertheless, it was a brilliant knock from the 28-year-old. BANGLADESH Overs: 136 II Score: 438/4 Trail by 132
AT STUMPS: The third day totally belonged to Bangladesh. Mohammad Ashraful and Mushfiqur Rahim dominated the final two sessions and eventually picked up the pace. The visitors ended the day at 438/4 with the fifth wicket partnership now worth a mammoth 261 runs.
Ashraful`s unbeaten 189 is the highest score by a Bangladeshi in international cricket and Rahim is on the other end at a very commendable 152*. They do still trail Sri Lanka by 132 runs, but from a point where it looked like a struggle to avoid the follow-on, day 4 may well be more about who can claim the bragging rights of a first innings lead.
