Colombo: Even before beginning their quest to achieve a series-levelling victory by winning the third and final cricket Test against Sri Lanka, India were dealt a severe blow as opener Gautam Gambhir was ruled out of the match.
Gambhir was ruled out of the second Test as well after sustaining a knee injury during a practice session.
Gambhir’s ouster gives another chance to stand-in opener Murali Vijay, who put up a good partnership along with Virender Sehwag in the second Test.
The third Test kicks off at Colombo on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, off-spinner Harbhajan Singh, who has looked a bit off-colour in the series so far is also doubtful for tomorrow’s game after missing a team practice session.
India lost the first Test of the series at Galle while drew the second game played at Colombo.
