Gavaskar wants senior players to educate youngsters
New Delhi: Former captain Sunil Gavaskar on Friday suggested that BCCI should approach senior players such as Sachin Tendulkar and Mahendra Singh Dhoni to bring about improvements in system so that youngsters could be stopped from going astray.
"What the BCCI can do is to ask the guys on the ground, guys like Dhoni, Tendulkar, Kumble and Dravid. They should come together because they know what was exactly happening on the ground, they can feel and sense because they are moving in the same circles," Gavaskar said.
"These are the guys who would know the signs in dressing room, whether somebody is going astray or not. These are the guys who the BCCI should be talking to. They would be able to give an idea about a system which should be put in place so that these things do not happen in future or to the extent its is happening," he said .
Gavaskar said Rajasthan Royals, whose three players, were found allegedly involved in the spot-fixing scandal, should be allowed to continue to play in the tournament.
"Rajasthan Royals should be allowed to continue. These three players would be weeded out, may be handed life ban some day pending an enquiry. But Rajasthan Royals as a team should not be penalised for wrongdoings of just of their three players," he said.
The former captain also refused to blame the BCCI for the scandal, saying that the Board cannot monitor individual players round the clock.
"I don`t understand how you can blame an organisation for what some individual do. The BCCI does not have control over these players 24 hours in a day and for 365 days. It is just like any other organisation, there will be some bad people and you cannot blame that organisation. Everybody is going very harshly at IPL just because three players out of a possible 270 have been caught so far in indulging in illegal activities," said Gavaskar.
He expected the Board to conduct a thorough inquiry and fix the lacunae wherever they are.
"I think there will be a thorough inquiry as to why something like this happen. Yes, this is probably the second year, last year also there were some instances. I think there will be an enquiry and find out if there is lacunae in the system.
