Gillespie ruled out of Windies Test series after failing to recover from ankle injury

Mark Gillespie has been ruled out of New Zealand’s Test series against the West Indies after failing to recover from an ankle injury.

Wellington: Fast bowler Mark Gillespie has been ruled out of New Zealand’s Test series against the West Indies after failing to recover from an ankle injury.
Gillespie endured extensive bone bruising and ligament damage after severely spraining his ankle while running. Kiwi national selection manager Kim Littlejohn said Gillespie would not travel to the West Indies and no decision had been made yet on who would replace him in the test squad. “Mark unfortunately has had to withdraw from the upcoming test series against the West Indies having not responded to treatment in time to be fully fit,” a website quoted Littlejohn, as saying. “As a precautionary measure Mark feels that it would be the right decision to stay in Wellington to continue working on his rehabilitation,” he added. The two test series will follow five one-dayers with the first to be played on Friday. ANI
