Hat-trick won`t mean anything if we lose: Broad

Nottingham: England`s hat-trick hero Stuart Broad on Saturday said that his feat would mean nothing if his side fails to win the second cricket Test and take a 2-0 lead over the Indians in the series.

"It won`t mean anything if we don`t win this Test. We need to post a big score. Somebody needs to get a big hundred and so tomorrow is a huge day," said Broad, who took a sensational hat-trick in front of his home crowd, at the post-match press conference.

"We need to get 300 and then apply pressure through our seamers. The wicket would have a variable bounce (in the fourth innings)," he said.

Broad, in his sensational spell in the final session today, took four wickets from six balls for no run --
including the wickets of Mahendra Singh Dhoni (5), Harbhajan Singh (0) and Praveen Kumar (0) off successive balls.

"We tried to build pressure the whole day. I thought heavy roller (taken by India in the morning), played a huge role. The wicket was quite slow and did not do huge amount of help for us.”

"But we wanted to build pressure for here you can have wickets in quick succession. Fortunately, we managed it late in the day. I said yesterday that India had three quarters of the day and it was the same today. Fortunately, we nipped the last session," he said.

The tall local bowler had words of praise for Rahul Dravid who managed a hundred while opening the innings.

"He played fantastically well. The way he left balls is an example for us tomorrow. He is hard to bowl, allows the ball to come to him. He had a bit of luck but still it was a fantastic hundred. We were happy to see the back of him.”

"It was very pleasing to see him standing at the other end while wickets fell quickly (this end)," said Broad who returned with career-best figures of 6/46.

Broad disclosed that number three batsman Jonathan Trott, who fell over his right shoulder and hurt himself, did not have any structural damage but it`s unlikely he would come out to bat till number six.

This is the third hat-trick which Broad has managed during his career although his first since the last one he got at under-15 level.
