New Delhi: The year 2013 has been phenomenal for Indian cricket. Eleven months later, Dhoni and his men in blue have six ODI trophies to their credit. Shikhar Dhawan has scored 5 centuries, Virat Kohli follows at 4. Rohit Sharma has found a new form. R Ashwin is the star all-rounder. Not forgetting, that at present India is world’s best ODI team and ranks number two in Test.
The year 2013 began with a 3-2 win over England followed by conquering the ICC Champions trophy.
Later they clinched the tri-series involving West Indies and Sri Lanka. In Zimbabwe, despite absence of Dhoni, Virat led the team to 5-0 victory. The ODI series against Australia was won 3-2 before clinching this ODI series against West Indies 2-1.
After sealing their win against West Indies, a question that arises is that is this the best ever Indian cricket team? Are Dhoni and his brigade the best combination ever?
Have a look. The new run-machine of Indian cricket, Virat Kohli, has proved that he can bat even in adverse conditions and is in tremendous form. Rohit Sharma is in the form of his life. After playing match-winning knocks while opening for India in the recently concluded seven-match ODI series against Australia, he made his much-awaited and delayed Test debut against West Indies at home. Shikhar Dhwan is high on confidence, scoring centuries and runs when it matter the most. Bhuvneshwar Kumar is taking wickets. Mohammad Shami has been an interesting find. Dhoni, of course, is the captain cool.
Now, India need a win on the South African soil, where they haven’t won an ODI series ever to further seal their dominant position this year. A win in the much anticipated series would be an icing on the cake as defeating the best Test team in the world would be a no mean feat for Dhoni and Co.
