Hayden to quit all forms of cricket after Big Bash
Brisbane: Former Australian opener Matthew Hayden has revealed that he will quit all forms of competitive cricket after the end of the Big Bash Twenty20 tournament to draw curtains on his illustrious career spanning 20 years.
Matthew HaydenHayden will lead Brisbane Heat when they lock horns with his former teammate Shane Warne`s Melbourne Stars at the Gabba, on Monday night, and the beefy opener said he wants to go on a high against the legendary leg-spinner.
"I don`t think I`ll play again next year...this will be it for me," said Hayden, who will quit cricket to focus on family, running his company The Hayden Way, and working on indigenous community initiatives.
"There`s just so much happening in my life, you can never wind back the clock...I`m a father of three firstly and I have a lot of work to do off the field.”
"I probably won`t face Warnie again -- hopefully I will be the winner," Hayden was quoted as saying in a daily.
Hayden said though he will quit competitive cricket, he would like to be a "part of building on this Twenty20 competition" in future.
"It is like walking down memory lane for me. In future, I`d like to be part of building on this Twenty20 competition," he said.
"I worked hard for many years as a first-class player and I`m proud to be playing for this franchise because it will give me a great insight for when I give up playing and go into administration."
The 40-year-old Australian scored 8625 runs at an average of 50.73 with 30 hundreds and 29 half-centuries in 103 Tests and accumulated 6133 runs at 43.80 laced with 10 centuries and 36 fifties in his 161 appearances in ODIs.
