Hunt for India's next coach: Interviews done, BCCI likely to announce name today

New Delhi: The Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) set up by Board of Cricket for Control in India (BCCI) interviewed the candidates who applied for the Indian coach's position, in Kolkata on Tuesday.

According to a report in ESPNCricinfo, the committee, comprising Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman, interviewed six to seven candidates.

Anil Kumble and Ravi Shasti as expected, were two of the most high-profile candidates who appeared for the interview.

While Kumble appeared in person for the interview, Shastri appeared for the interview through Skype as he is currently said to be in Thailand.

The CAC is said to have submitted its report to the BCCI and the big announcement is expected today.

The other candidates who were interviewed were Tom Moody, Stuart Law, Lalchand Rajput, Pravin Amre and Andy Moles.

Earlier, speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Ganguly said that he will not "mess up" as he did once when he recommended Australian Greg Chappell's name in 2005.

Ganguly and Chappell shared a frosty relationship during two turbulent years in country's cricket, a time when one of India's celebrated captain was removed from the top job.

"I once had an opportunity to select the coach. I thought I messed it up in 2005 (during Chappell's recruitment). I have been given that opportunity again. I had taken an interview (Chappell) once and it did not go off well," Ganguly said during the launch of his book 'A Century Is Not Enough'.
