ICC informs SLC on Tharanga testing postive for banned drug

Colombo: The ICC has informed Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) that opener Upul Tharanga has failed the test for a banned substance.

According to a media release issued by SLC, his urine sample had been taken on March 29 after World Cup semi-final clash against New Zealand.

The ICC has said that disciplinary action had been initiated against Tharanga.

The SLC said that as a result Tharanga would not be selected for this month`s ODI series agsinst England or Sri Lanka `A` team tour of England.

Sources in SLC said veteran Sanath Jayasuriya at 42 is likely to be picked in Tharanga`s place. Jayasuriya, has been practising hard.
