Mumbai: With the thumping Box Office success of ‘Jaane Tu …Ya Jaane Na’, right from being a lesser known B-town actress, Genelia D’Souza achieved overnight stardom and became a teen idol for young lovers. Yet, in spite of the heady success of ‘Jaane Tu…’, Genelia has almost disappeared from the silver screen.
News has it that the lissome beauty is not on a sabbatical or a self imposed exile but waiting for the release of her upcoming flicks. Talking to a news daily, when enquired whether she is waiting for any big banner, the petite actress said, “What’s the definition of a big banner? I have worked with UTV, Studio 18, Aamir Khan Productions, done films in the South, and I have four releases this year. There’s one opposite Fardeen Khan, ‘It’s My Life’ opposite Hurman Baweja, ‘Hook Ya Crook’ with John Abraham and ‘Yahoo’ with Shahid Kapoor. Isn’t that a lot?”
On a somber note, Genelia added that it’s a dream come true for any actress to work with the Khans and it’s just what she desperately needs as she said, “Like every young girl, I too would like to work with the Khans, but each film has a script and only a suitable actor can play that role.”
Nevertheless, the dainty actress is currently in Mumbai after enjoying a delightful break from down South, a place where Genelia enjoys a superstar status in comparison to Bollywood. Enjoying the Mumbai showers at the Bandra-Worli Sealink, Genelia said “It’s been five years since I played football in the rains. Do you know I was a national level football player in college.”
