ICC team unable to meet Tillakaratne: SL Sports Minister
Colombo: A team of ICC investigators have arrived here to quiz the former captain Hashan Tillakaratne over his match-fixing allegations, Sports Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage told the Parliament on Wednesday.
But they were unable to meet him as he was not answering his mobile phone, the minister added.
Tillakaratne last month told a television chat show that match-fixing existed in Sri Lanka cricket as far back as 1992.
Later making a statement in the western provincial council, Tillakaratne said he could only reveal names of those involved if adequate secuirty would be provided to him to ensure his personal safety.
He was later quizzed by the police over his claims of match-fixing.
Tillakaratne`s remarks drew responses from national cricketers Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardene, who both said it was dangerous to make unspecified allegations. The minister told the Parliament that the former captain must come forward and he would ensure his personal safety.
