Queensland: Pakistan began their world cup campaign in style defeating Afghanistan in their opening match by 109 runs.

Called in to bat after Afghanistan captain Javed Ahmadi won the toss Pakistan made 253/6 in their allotted 50 overs.

Chasing the target, Afghanistan could manage only 144 as they were bundled out in 45.3 overs.

For Pakistan, Mohammad Nawaz top scored with 66 while Sayed Shirzad and Yamin Ahmadzai took two wickets apiece for Afghanistan.

From, Afghanistan Hashmatullah Shaidi made 50 runs before holing out to Usman Qadir.

Brief Scores: Pakistan 253 (Nawaz 66, Shirzad 2/43) beat Afganistan 144 (Shaidi 50, Zia-ul-haq 4/30)
