Wellington: New Zealand`s Martin Guptill scored his second consecutive century at the World Cup on Saturday, giving the Black Caps a major boost in their quarter-final against the West Indies.

Guptill reached 100 off 111 balls, with 12 fours, including one off the first ball of the innings, to help New Zealand to 183 for two after they won the toss and elected to bat

The timely knock came after Black Caps dangerman Brendon McCullum was dismissed for just 12.

It was Guptill`s seventh one-day international century and followed his 105 against Bangladesh in New Zealand`s last match.

However, he did have a lucky escape when Marlon Samuels dropped him on four off the third ball of the innings.
