Despite lukewarm displays, Virender Sehwag backs Yuvraj Singh for ICC World Twenty20 success

New Delhi: Former India batsman Virender Sehwag has backed star left-hander Yuvraj Singh to come good at the all-important ICC World Twenty20.

Viru and Yuvi played together for several years and share a great friendship. The duo was part of a very successful India side that was captained by Sourav Ganguly.

Though the Punjab batsman delivered two crucial hits in the 3rd T20I against Australia and played another decent knock against Sri Lanka in the Asia Cup, he hasn't looked completely comfortable out in the middle.

However, Sehwag is hoping for Yuvraj to play a 'typical' innings at the World Cup if he bats at number four.

“I am very happy for Yuvraj Singh. He’s one player I want to see in the World Cup. If he comes at the top of the order and gets a chance to play at number 4, then I will look forward to seeing him play his natural, typical Yuvi innings. So I am hoping that he will come with good performances in the T20 World Cup,” he was quoted as saying by CricBuzz.

At the moment, Virat Kohli and Suresh Raina bat at number two and three positions respectively. Hence Yuvraj has hardly anytime left to settle down when he come out to bat.

The World Twenty20 will be yet another challenge for the left-hander considering he is likely to bat at number five position.
