New Delhi: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi talked sports on Sunday and wished Team India ahead of their virtual quarter-final match of the 2016 ICC World Twenty20 against Australia at Mohali.

Modi, who was addressing the nation during 'Mann Ki Baat' radio program, took the opportunity and also hailed the performances of other sub-continental teams Bangladesh and Pakistan in the marquee tournament.

"The performance of India against Pakistan and Bangladesh was commendable. They have gained a momentum and I wish our team all the best for today's match," Modi said.

India-Australia match will decide the fourth and last semi-finalists. New Zealand, West Indies and England have already booked their last four spots.

During the speech, Modi also promised to promote football to build momentum ahead of the U-17 FIFA World Cup next year.

"Many of you may not be aware that we are going to host the next U-17 FIFA World Cup. This world cup will offer us many opportunities to develop the necessary infrastructure for sports.

"But we can only do it if the youths are involved in it. I appeal to you to give your suggestions on how should we promote the world cup and how can we improve our facilities," he added.

He also sough suggestions for logos, anthems and souvenirs for the youth world cup.
