New Delhi: In a new development regarding the resignation of IIT-Delhi director Raghunath K Shevgaonkar, Union Human Resource and Development on Sunday clarified that there has not been a request from Sachin Tendulkar for ground of IIT-Delhi for running cricket academy.

It was earlier reported that Mr Shevgaonkar was under pressure from the HRD ministry to provide IIT-Delhi ground for a cricket academy that Tendulkar was keen on opening in Delhi.

Interestingly, the batting maestro today denied planning such a academy and that he had sought land from IIT-Delhi to build it.

"I am appalled to read the stories that suggest some land has been asked from IIT-D for academy in my name," Tendulkar said in a tweet.

"I have not even planned any academy neither do I want any piece of land for any purpose," he added.

"Wish that basic facts are checked from me before publishing such fiction using my name," Tendulkar further slammed the report.

Further reports suggest that the main reason for the director's resignation could be regarding HRD's possible pressure to release pay of nearly Rs 70 lakh to former IIT-Delhi faculty and now BJP leader Subramanian Swamy as his salary dues between 1972 and 1991.

Mr. Shevgaonkar submitted his resignation on Friday to Ministry, more than two years before the end of his term.

He is on lien from IIT-Bombay where he was Dean and Head of Electrical Engineering. He has also served as Vice-Chancellor of the University of Pune between 2010 and 2011.

Also, Union HRD Minister Smriti Irani called a meeting here today to discuss the issue.
