Pacers Tim Bresnan and Stuart Meaker picked up three wickets apiece as Haryana ended 188 runs behind the visiting side. Rahul's 320-ball 144 stood out in the Haryana scorecard, in which the only other knock of relevance came from number three Sunny Singh (55). Reduced to 256 for seven at lunch, Haryana managed to cross 300 after Chanderpal Saini contributed 35 runs, which included seven boundaries. He shared an important 60-run partnership with Rahul, frustrating the visiting bowlers for quite some time. In the pre-lunch session, responding to the visitors' first innings total of 521, Haryana were done in by a middle-order collapse despite the strong start they made on Friday. Resuming at overnight 172 for four, the fall of wickets started pretty early for Haryana as Sandeep Singh departed after a 35-ball five, including a four. Amit Mishra (17) and Jayant Yadav (17) provided brief company to Rahul before falling to Stuart Meaker, who is in the team as cover for the injured Steven Finn. The regular fall of wickets, however, did little to affect Rahul's morale as he held one end. ==================================================================================== HARYANA Overs: 113.4 II Score: 333/10 Chanderpal Saini and Sanjay Budhwar were the final two wickets to fall on the third day of the practice game between Haryana and England XI. Haryana fell short of the visitor's first innings total by 188 runs. ==================================================================================== HARYANA Overs: 97 II Score: 280/8 Samit Patel gave Haryana another blow by picking up his second wicket of the match in Amit Vashisht. He scored 16 (33b, 4X2) before being given out lbw. ==================================================================================== LUNCH REPORT Opener Rahul Dewan completed a patient hundred but found little support from the rest of the Haryana line-up as the team crawled to 256 for seven in their first innings against England XI at lunch on the third day of their practice match on Saturday. Responding to the visitors' first innings total of 521, Haryana were done in by a middle-order collapse despite the strong start they made yesterday. At the break, Rahul was unbeaten on 112 with Amit Vashisht (8) giving him company at the other end. The opener has so far faced 267 deliveries in his 250-minute stay and has struck 14 boundaries. For England, pacers Tim Bresnan and Meaker did most of the damage by sharing five wickets between them -- three of them going in the former's kitty. ==================================================================================== HARYANA Overs: 90 II Score: 256/7 Haryana lost their seventh wicket in Jayant Yadav who was bowled by Stuart Meaker. HARYANA Over: 61 II Score: 172/4 Haryana were trailing England XI’s first innings total by 249 runs with six wickets in hand. Rahul Dewan (77*) and Sandeep Singh (2*) were still in the middle. ==================================================================================== DAY 2 REPORT Haryana spinners took five of the six wickets that fell in the day although England scored at a brisk pace, adding 113 runs in 28.2 overs after resuming at 408 for three. FULL REPORT Speaking at the end of day`s play, Bresnan, who is vying for the third seamer`s slot, said, "The key to taking wickets on Indian pitches is to bowl straight. Or, (in a lighter vein) be a spinner." The track, Bresnan quipped, offered no bounce, seam or spin for bowlers to trouble the batsman. The Yorkshire pacer said it would be difficult to get 20 wickets on these pitches, adding that the wickets for the Tests would be no different. WITH PTI
