SCORECARD» | HIGHLIGHTS» Read Day One Report »I Also Read: Present tense, future bleak for Team India» Day 1: Brief summary Once again, India are on the backfoot after losing seven wickets on the first day. Apart from Tendulkar (76) and Gambhir (60), none of the batsmen managed to stay at the crease for long. Tendulkar began his innings with some loose strokes and then settled and looked for a big one before Prior took an excellent catch off James Anderson to dismiss the Little Master. The English bowlers, on the other hand, have once again shown a lot of teeth. They should consider themselves unlucky as few decisions went against them and many edges didn’t carry to the fielders. While Monty Panesar (2/74) continues to impress, it was James Anderson (3/68) who bowled his heart out and picked three crucial wickets on a flat Eden track! ==================================================================================== INDIA: Over: 90 II Score: 273/7 (1st innings) (Dhoni 22*) After playing a great boundary off Anderson, R Ashwin has been dismissed in the penultimate over of the day. Ashwin missed the line of the ball which swung in and crashed onto the stumps. At the end of the first days play India were 273/7 with skipper Dhoni still at the crease with Zaheer Khan who is yet to open his account. ==================================================================================== INDIA: Over: 83 II Score: 254/6 (1st innings) (Dhoni 17*) 250 comes up for India. Ashwin and Dhoni have added 24 runs so far without any further damage. ==================================================================================== INDIA: Over: 75 II Score: 232/6 (1st innings) (Sachin 76) Sachin out for 76 off 155 balls. James Anderson, who was bowling very well, induced an outside edge from the Master's bat which was beautifully taken by wicket-keeper Matt Prior, diving to his right. R Ashwin joins Dhoni in the middle. ==================================================================================== INDIA: Over: 69 II Score: 215/5 (1st innings) (Sachin 67*) And when we thought that Yuvraj was all set for a good innings here, he has once again gifted his wicket to Swann. The ball spun away from Yuvi who gave an easy catch towards Cook at short extra-cover. It also ends a 79-run partnership between him and Tendulkar. The skipper MS Dhoni comes to the crease. ==================================================================================== INDIA: Over: 65 II Score: 204/4 (1st innings) (Tendulkar 63) India cross the 200-run mark as Tendulkar scores a boundary off Panesar. Both the batsmen have grown in confidence and are sending the lose deliveries for boundaries. ==================================================================================== INDIA: Over: 59 II Score: 182/4 (1st innings) (Tendulkar 56*) And Tendulkar reaches his half-century immediately after tea. And he follows it with a boundary at deep backward point. It hasn’t been the best we have seen from him, but he’s still there. ==================================================================================== INDIA: Over: 58 II Score: 172/4 (1st innings) (Sachin 46*) Its tea time. Both Sachin and Yuvraj are not looking comfortable at the crease. Suprisingly, Yuvraj is struggling with most of the deliveries. Every now and then, Tendulkar, however is scoring a boundary to release the pressure. The luck is with India for the time being. The edges are running through the gaps. Tendulkar is now four runs short of his half-century. ==================================================================================== INDIA: Over: 49 II Score: 136/4 (1st innings) (Tendulkar 26*) And India lose another wicket, their fourth! Virat Kohli this time. A boundary came off the previous ball, and then Kohli nicked one to the slips. Yuvraj Singh is the new batsman. ==================================================================================== INDIA: Over: 42 II Score: 117/3 (1st innings) (Gambhir 60) And soon after Tendulkar scored two boundaries off Finn, Panesar picked his second wicket of the match by dismissing the set batsman Gautam Gambhir. Panesar offered some width and he attempted a cut shot, didn’t connect well and the ball went to the slip cordon where Trott took a good catch. Virat Kohli is the new batsman. ==================================================================================== INDIA: Over: 39 II Score: 108/2 (1st innings) (Gambhir 60*) India reached 100 runs as an edge from Tendulkar’s bat went for a boundary at third man. But Tendulkar is still not at his best as Panesar continues to impress with his line and length. Gambhir on the other hand is becoming more confident with his shots. ==================================================================================== INDIA: Over: 29 II Score: 90/2 (1st innings) (Gambhir 50*) That’s lunch. England would be happy after picking two wickets in that session. Gambhir is the set batsmen and India would want him to reach the three-figure mark, something which he hasn’t done for quite some time. Tendulkar is the other batsman at the crease and one need not say that the Little Master is under tremendous pressure as well. ==================================================================================== INDIA: Over: 26 II Score: 88/2 (1st innings) (Gambhir 49*) And Monty Panesar gets the big wicket of Pujara! It was an arm ball that spun into the right-hander. Pujara was waiting for the ball to turn away, completely missed the line. Panesar follows the dismissal with a huge celebration. Sachin Tendulkar comes to the crease. ==================================================================================== INDIA: Over: 19 II Score: 64/1 (1st innings) ( Gambhir 33 *) Pujara and Gambhir have stitched the innings well after Sehwag’s dismissal. Gambhir is punishing the loose deliveries and Pujara is like always looking solid at the crease. ==================================================================================== INDIA: Over: 11 II Score: 48/1 (1st innings) (Gambhir: 24*) Gautam Gambhir was looking confident at the crease and Sehwag too had started to find the gaps before there was a huge misunderstanding between the two openers! Sehwag flicked Anderson towards deep midwicket and he ran for the third, Gambhir refused and Sehwag is run-out! These two were looking set and now India have gifted a wicket to the Poms. ==================================================================================== INDIA: Over: 2 II Score: 10/0 (1st innings) (Gambhir: 9*) Steven Finn bowled the second over and Gambhir welcomed him with a boundary. The second ball got a leading edge that went past the slips for another boundary. There was a huge appeal for caught behind against Sehwag which was turned down by the umpire. Nine runs from the over. ==================================================================================== England have made two changes. Ian Bell and Steven Finn replace Bairstow and Stuart Broad. For India, Ishant Sharma comes in for Harbhajan Singh. TOSS: MS Dhoni has won the Toss and he has decided to bat first. Sourav Ganguly and Arun Lal have analysed the pitch which they think is a very good batting wicket! Hello and welcome to our Live Coverage for the third Test match to be played between India and England at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata. England have shown a lot of teeth in the tournament so far and they will be high on confidence after thrashing the home team by 10 wickets in the second Test match. England made a blunder by excluding Monty Panesar from the first Test. The left-arm spinner wreaked havoc in the second Test where he picked 11 wickets in both the innings. Apart from Pujara, none of the Indian batsmen have looked confident at the crease.
