So, the third day’s play has ended. India have put up a dominating performance today. Their captain MS Dhoni has lead from the front and slammed a maiden double century, guiding his team to a total of 515/8. They enjoy a lead of 135 runs with two wickets in hand. Australia started the day on a positive note bowling a tight line. It was this that got them the wicket of Sachin Tendulkar. However, Virat Kohli continued from the other end and went on to complete his century. However, the day will be remembered for Dhoni’s audacious stroke play that took the life out of Australian bowlers. ==================================================================================== INDIA (1st innings) Score: 508/8 II Overs: 138 (Dhoni 200*, Kumar 15*) DOUBLE TON TO MS DHONI! Mahendra Singh becomes the first Indian wicketkeeper to slam double century in Tests. A quick single brought up the milestone. Dhoni refuses to remove his helmet to celebrate his achievement. Just raises his bat to acknowledge the applause. Tendulkar claps sporting a wide smile. What an effort from the skipper! Leading from the front. Apparently a reply to Clarke: Anything you do, I can do better! The partnership has also crossed 100-run mark –Kumar has contributed just 13 runs to it! ==================================================================================== INDIA (1st innings) Score: 495/8 II Overs: 135 (Dhoni 194*, Kumar 8*) This is the highest score by an Indian wicketkeeper in Tests. Dhoni is just a bog hit away from a maiden double ton. Off the final delivery of this over from Warner, Kumar showed his prowess cutting Warner for a boundary. Off the third delivery of the over, Dhoni had already recorded his 21st boundary. Off Lyon’s 36th over, Dhoni scored two sixes – over deep midwicket and over long-off. #Carnage ==================================================================================== INDIA (1st innings) Score: 458/8 II Overs: 130 (Dhoni 161*, Kumar 4*) MS Dhoni has surpassed his previous best (148) in Tests. He is still employing his shots with aplomb hitting boundaries at will. In the 127th over bowled by Pattinson, he collected two boundaries through mid-off and cover region. Off the next by Siddle, Kumar added two runs. There was a rare misfield from David Warner at long-on that gave Dhoni another four. The lead is now 78 runs. ==================================================================================== INDIA (1st innings) Score: 438/8 II Overs: 126 (Dhoni 145*, Kumar 2*) MS Dhoni is continuing with his attack. Off the second ball of the 123rd over, he dispatched Nathan Lyon for a maximum over long-on for his third six of the innings. That over fetched India nine runs. Off Lyon’s next he collected six runs that included a boundary to long-off. Kumar has faced 30 deliveries and is proving useful company to his captain. ==================================================================================== INDIA (1st innings) Score: 406/8 II Overs: 116 (Dhoni 121*) After Virat Kohli, MS Dhoni has also slammed a ton. It has been a fantastic innings from the Indian skipper who has played a sensible innings which began with a lot of aggression to unsettle Lyon and then slowed down the pace as per the need. India lost the wicket of Harbhajan Singh who was bowled by Henriques who picked his first wicket of the match. After a poor show with the bowl, Bhajji proved to be a failure with the bat as well. He has had a forgettable 100th match so far. Harbhajan Singh b Henriques 11 (31b) ==================================================================================== INDIA (1st innings) Score: 371/6 II Overs:105 (Dhoni 97*) Tea: India have scored 108 runs off 28 overs and lost two wickets in that session. Dhoni is batting on 97 in what has been an outstanding innings. India now trail by 9 runs with four wickets in hand. The two wickets to fall in that session were of Kohli and Jadeja. While Kohli got a little carried out after reaching his century, Jadeja once again departed in a poor fashion. The Australians would want to dismiss the Indian skipper as soon as possible after tea after which the tail will be exposed. ==================================================================================== INDIA (1st innings) Score: 365/6 II Overs: 103 (Dhoni 94) Jadeja who was looking extremely vulnerable at the crease has finally been bowled by Pattinson! Patting pitched it not far from off-stump and Jadeja left it only to see the ball knocking his stumps! Extremely poor judegement there. Jadeja’s struggle at the crease was a reason why Dhoni has also slowed down the pace of his innings. Before being dismissed, Jadeja survived few close calls. Dhoni is into his nineties which is another reason why he isn’t taking too many risks. But that’s the need of the hour as well, as India now trail by just 14 runs after which they would want to take a substantial amount of lead. RA Jadeja b Pattinson 16 (45b) ==================================================================================== INDIA (1st innings) Score: 324/5 II Overs: 90 (Dhoni 73*) And Virat departs soon after scoring his 4th Test ton. Nathan Lyon was brought back into the attack and he struck off his second ball as Kohli worked a fuller length delivery towards mid-on, soft dismissal. That ends his 128-run partnership with MS Dhoni who is looking extremely dangerous out there. Ravindra Jadeja has come to the crease. V Kohli c Starc b Lyon 107 (206b) ==================================================================================== INDIA (1st innings) Score: 303/4 II Overs: 87 (Kohli 102*, Dhoni 57*) These two continue to build up a solid partnership as the stylish Virat Kohli slams his fourth Test ton, second against the Aussies. It has been a composed innings and nowhere one could sense that he was taking too many risks. Superb knock by the Delhi lad as he flicked one towards deep square leg, the hands went in the air and the entire Indian squad is up on their feet. Terrific knock! And at the other end, Indian skipper MS Dhoni has been scoring runs briskly and scored his 29th half-century. These two have also added an unbeaten 100-run partnership for the fifth wicket! ==================================================================================== INDIA (1st innings) Score: 263/4 II Overs: 79 (Kohli 83*, Dhoni 37*) And that’s lunch. Kohli and Dhoni have done extremely well so far as they have added 67 runs in less than 16 overs. Australia were brilliant in the first hour where Tendulkar was dismissed but the counter-attack by these two has once again left Michael Clarke wondering what to do next. ==================================================================================== INDIA (1st innings) Score: 237/4 II Overs: 72 (Kohli 69*, Dhoni 25*) After Tendulkar’s departure Dhoni made sure he didn’t allow Lyon to settle down and the off-spinner has had a tough time as now even Kohli is smashing him all over the ground. Clarke has brought Pattinson, who has been his best bowler so far as both Kohli and Dhoni are scoring plenty of Lyon. ==================================================================================== INDIA (1st innings) Score: 199/4 II Overs: 64 (Kohli 56*) So a very Good Morning to all our readers who’ll be disappointed to know that Sachin Tendulkar has missed on his 101st international ton as he was bowled by a real beauty from Nathan Lyon! The ball was pitched outside off, Tendulkar went for the drive and like an off-spinner’s dream the ball spun enough through the gap and rattle the stumps! That also ended 91-run partnership between Kohli and Tendulkar for the fourth wicket. SR Tendulkar b Lyon 81 (159b) ====================================================================================
