Bedi lambasts BCCI for preparing ``doctored`` pitchesSydney: Former Indian spinner Bishan Singh Bedi has lambasted the Board of Cricket Control in India (BCCI) for preparing doctored pitches at home to suit their spin bowlers. India`s spinners claimed 20 wickets for only the third time in their Test history as the home side thrashed Michael Clarke`s men by eight wickets on Tuesday`s fifth day of the first Test in Chennai.

Aussie leg spin great Shane Warne had likened the red clay pitch to Roland Garros and joked the tourists should have picked Rafael Nadal in their side. Bedi said in Australia, you don`t doctor those wickets, adding every wicket Down Under has a character to it. Bedi added they have their own respective characters and those characters are never destroyed, adding it`s the same in England. Bedi said it was natural for Indian pitches to favour spin on days four and five of a Test match, but if it turns on the first session of the first day, somewhere along the line the ICC might have to step in. But will they?

The former left-arm spinner added he wasn`t embarrassed, but he was annoyed, adding it is taking home advantage to another extreme. Bedi further said it is not quite cricket, as the game is supposed to be a game of integrity. Bedi also predicted India`s spinners won`t be quite so venomous in the second Test in Hyderabad starting on Saturday. Even ex-Australia Test skipper Ian Chappell said preparing dustbowl tracks to suit the home side is a disgrace, in India or anywhere else. Chappell, who played against Bedi more than four decades ago, claimed the curator should be left alone to prepare the best possible pitch.

I fully agree. I would also like to add that B.S.Bedi was one of the most agile and athletic cricketers of his time. His athletic skill in the outfield and tactical skill as a captain made India the number one all time test playing country, and a formidable opponent feared by all. Great show Mr. Bedi. for speaking your mind, such as it is!
