Sydney: Ricky Ponting has revealed Indian batsman Gautam Gambhir had warned the Australian team of instant vengeance by making spin-friendly pitches in India after their 4-0 Test flogging Down Under last year.
When India was being hammered in Australia last season, struggling Gambhir, who Ponting claims is a prickly little customer, pledged there would be immediate revenge on India`s dustbowl decks in current four-Test series.
Ponting said when some Indian players left Australia last time they thought they served up some green spicy wickets and they said `you wait until you see what you get in our country`, adding it was Gambhir who said it.
Gambhir was dropped before this series but his forecast has hit the bulls-eye with Australia literally spun off their feet going two-down after two Tests in the four Test series, the paper reported.
Ponting said everyone knew what to expect, but unfortunately so far they have not been able to adapt as well as they would have liked.
The former Australian captain added Indian players are masters in those conditions, adding the way they play and bowl spin, and even the way they use their quicks when the ball starts to reverse they are hard to beat over there at their home.
Ponting bears no grudge against India for tossing up wickets that spin like tops, and he just wishes Australian batsman could get a dose of something similar without leaving their own shores.
