OVERS 141// RUNS 521// WICKETS 8

Smith is playing like a supreme commander here punishing Ashwin. Fours, sixes, ones and twos are all coming in a merry. Lyon is the new batsman as Harris earlier was trapped LBW by Ashwin. It seems a long ago now with the Smith carnage at the MCG. Lyon gets off the mark in the 141st over picking up three runs in the off side off Yadav's bowling. Smith meanwhile has moved into the 190-run bracket. What a player!

OVERS 134// RUNS 470// WICKETS 7

Smith has got to his 150 and Harris as usual has been free flowing and has taken the attack to the backyard. The Indian bowlers have been dismal as usual.

Umesh Yadav got India off to a great start by dismissing David Warner, Australia's in-form batsman for a duck. It was a great opportunity for the hosts to capitalise on a good start. But that wasn't the case as Chris Rogers and Shane Watson stitched 115 runs for the second-wicket partnership putting Australia back in the driving seat.

After both the batsmen were dismissed at the score of 115, captain Steven Smith stitched two small but crucial partnerships with Shaun Marsh (32) and Joe Burns (13) and took the score to 215. It wasn't a memorable debut for Burns who was dismissed by Umesh.

Australia looked in some sort of trouble at 215-5, but once again Smith continued to lead from the front and by stumps, he had added unbeaten 43 runs for the sixth wicket along with Brad Haddin (23).

Earlier, India made a bold move as they dropped Rohit Sharma, who was replaced by Lokesh Rahul.

Meanwhile Mohammed Shami, who replaced Varun Aaron for the match, bowled in decent spells and took two wickets on the opening day.
