New Delhi: While going into the third Test, India would be under immense pressure against Australia as they are already at the back-foot in the series after losing the first two Tests in the four-match series.
For the tourists, losing or drawing MCG Test means the home side will clinch the series. And in that case fourth Test, scheduled to take place at Sydney Cricket Ground, will be a dead rubber.
To keep the high-profile series alive till the end, India have to win the Boxing Day Test, which will start from December 26.
In the first Test, which took place at Adelaide Oval, India showed immense resilience under stand-in skipper Virat Kohli to scare the Aussies. In fact, on the fifth and final day they were close to create history but eventually lost the thriller by 48 runs.
In the Brisbane Test too, Indian team performed fairly well till the third day, as the match was evenly poised. But then the carnage by deadly Mitchell Johnson left the visitors high and dry.
Few Indian batsmen and bowlers performed well in the series so far, but in patches. However, with one of the prime Indian seamers, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, looking set to return in the 3rd Test, one can expect another thrilling match.
The visitors have to give their best shot to beat the home side at their own backyard and keep the series alive. MS Dhoni, who already has a poor overseas record as a skipper, has to lead his side by example to put a break on Australia's winning streak.
