New Delhi: If reports are to believed, Ishant Sharma will be newly anointed Test captain Virat Kohli's deputy. Following Mahendra Singh Dhoni's sudden retirement from the five-day format of the game, vice-captain Kolhi was appointed India captain, thus leaving the position vacant.
Earlier, it was speculated that either Ajinkya Rahane or Ravichandran Ashwin will be given the position. But, the Delhi pace bowler has in all probability wrested the position. However, in an interesting turn of events Bhuvneshwar Kumar congratulated Sharma 'for getting promoted as the vice-captain of Indian Test cricket team' through his official Facebook account on Wednesday night.
Ishant Sharma, 26, is the most experienced players in the current Indian cricket set-up and has already played more than 60 Tests. Despite his limited success as India's strike bowler, he has been making up with his consistent performances and by being one of the stable team-member of the team.
India will play the fourth and final Test match against Australia in Sydney starting January 6 and if the reports are true, then he could walk out as India's new No. 2. And the Indian cricket board, BCCI is likely to announce the new vice captain before the Sydney Test.
