Mohali: Statistical highlights of the opening day of the first cricket Test between India and Australia here on Friday.

  • Ishant Sharma has delivered eight no-balls in Australia’s innings. He has twice bowled 9 balls in an innings- vs Pakistan at Bangalore in 2007-08 and vs South Africa at Kolkata in 2009-10.
  • Shane Watson and Michael Hussey have added 46 for the fourth wicket - Australia’s highest at Mohali, eclipsing the 40 between Michael Hussey and Michael Clarke in October 2008.
  • Ponting has extended his record for most ‘run-outs’ (14) in Tests. Rahul Dravid, Matthew Hayden and Allan Border have recorded 12 such dismissals.
  • Michael Clarke is the leading Australian run-getter in 2010, aggregating 602 at an average of 54.72 in seven Tests, including two hundreds and two fifties.
  • Shane Watson’s magnificent unbeaten 101 at a strike rate of 36.20 is his second hundred in Tests - his first against India. His previous best against India was 78 at Mohali in 2008.
  • Watson’s career-best is 120 not out against Pakistan at Melbourne in December 2009.
  • Watson is the first Australian batsman to register a century at PCA Stadium, Mohali, obliterating his 78 in October 2008.
  • Watson’s aforesaid innings is his slowest of his eleven 50-plus knocks.
  • Ricky Ponting (71) has posted his maiden fifty at PCA Stadium, Mohali. His seventh half-century against India is his 53rd in Tests.
  • For the third time, India have lost nine consecutive tosses between December 2, 2009 and October 1, 2010.
  • Shane Watson and Ponting put on 141 for the second wicket -- a partnership record for Australia at Mohali for any wicket, eclipsing the 84 for the sixth wicket between Michael Clarke and Brad Haddin in October 2008.
  • For the first time, Marcus North has posted ducks in successive innings. In his previous outing against Pakistan at Leeds, he had posted a duck. Overall, he has five ducks to his credit.
