Mumbai: Updates from the third day of the Mumbai Test being played between India and England.

India: Over: 26 II Score: 117/7 (2nd innings) (Gambhir 53*)
Gambhir reached his half-century in the last over as he scored a boundary off Graeme Swann on the off side. Ashwin was the other wicket to fall, and he was caught at covers. India now lead by 31 runs with just three wickets in hand. And not to forget, this was the Third Day of the Test match. India will need a divine intervention to save the Test match from here onwards.

And India have lost their fifth wicket-Yuvraj Singh! He gave an easy catch to Bairstow towards short leg. The Indian spinners weren’t that impactful. And the Indian batsmen are struggling as if they are playing on a non-familiar pitch.

Tendulkar and Kohli have been dismissed as well! India are reeling here. Tendulkar was trapped in front by Panesar while Kohli once again played an unnecessary shot which wasn’t the need of the hour. Yuvraj Singh and Gambhir are there at the crease. Gambhir is the set batsman and he needs to play a special knock here. England are all set for a major upset here.

And it’s bad news for the Indian cricket fans. Monty Panesar dismissed Sehwag who was caught in gully area. Pujara came to the crease amid rousing reception but could last for only three balls and was caught by Bairstow at short leg. Bairstow anticipated that well and it was excellent catch. India have lost 2 wickets in a span of just six balls. Sachin Tendulkar comes to the crease.

Sehwag and Gambhir have began the proceedings on a careful note. The ball is turning a lot which is why none of them have tried to take any kind of risk whatsoever. The result of this match will depend a lot on the manner in which these two play. Gambhir played a pull shot for a boundary but he is still not looking comfortable at the crease.

And the tail enders have collapsed within no time! Prior was run-out after which Harbhajan Singh dismissed Broad (6) and Anderson (2) in the same over and Monty Panesar was the last wicket to fall after hitting a boundary off Ashwin. England now lead by 86 runs.

England have added 36 runs in the last six overs without the loss of a wicket and Prior is looking solid at the crease. Dhoni would want the spinners to dismiss Prior after which the tail will be exposed.

And Pragyan Ojha gets the Big Fish! It was a top delivery that spun away from Pietersen who was early in the shot and Dhoni takes another good catch. And Ojha gets another five-wicket haul. What a series he is having. Pietersen is back in form with a fantabulous innings, he leaves the field to a standing ovation from the crowd.

The runs are coming at quick pace as Pietersen continues to attack spinners. He slog swept Ojha for a six to reach 150 runs. None of the bowlers have troubled him so far but he has been brutal to Ojha in particular.

Ojha picked his third wicket in the second innings as he dismissed Bairstow just at the stroke of lunch. It was a good catch taken by Gambhir at silly point. It has been England’s day so far but the Indian spinners are just sneaking in. England now trail by 29 runs with 6 wickets in hand. Pietersen is batting extremely well and Matt Prior will also be a key wicket for the Indian team.

And Ashwin gets the much needed breakthrough. He was bowling short all day but on this occasion he pitches one on the fuller length, Cook tried to defend that, the ball spun and went into the hands of Dhoni who takes a good catch. Another magnificent innings by Cook comes to an end. It also ends the 204-run partnership between him and Kevin Pietersen.

Alastair Cook continued his phenomenal form as he slammed yet another century to deflate the Indian team. It is Cook’s fourth ton against India. Kevin Pietersen too gained form in this match as he reached his century with a reverse-sweep off Harbhajan Singh. It is Pietersen’s 22nd ton. Both the batsmen are now looking well set and the body language of the Indian spinners is not that good for the time being.

India missed a run-out chance against Alastair Cook. Ojha opened the bowling on Day 4 and once again he has been very impressive so far.

Kevin Pietersen and Cook pummelled the Indian bowlers on Day as they added unbeaten 110 runs for the third wicket. Apart from Ojha, none of the Indian spinners have looked at their best which should be a major concern for Dhoni.
