They were asked to follow-on and they have responded well scoring 111 in the final session of the day. Alastair Cook has led from the front showing the way for the entire team and has received good support from Nick Compton. The Indian bowlers, who were having gala time in the morning, returned wicketless. Dhoni tried six different bowlers including Sachin Tendulkar but failed to penetrate through the defences of the English openers. The visiting batsmen seemed to have come up with an altogether different mindset and have showed intent to stay on the wicket avoiding any rash strokes. ==================================================================================== ENGLAND (Following on) Over: 33 II Score: 93/0 Alastair Cook has completed his fifty and his getting good support from his opening partner Nick Compton who seems to have adopted well to the condition and is now dealing the spinners better. Cook 61*, Compton 29*. ==================================================================================== ENGLAND (Following on) Over: 28 II Score: 70/0 Cook is nearing his fifty and is currently on 44. He has hit seven boundaries. Too much of debate over DRS on twitter with former players and journos expressing their views on the issue as a result of quiet a number of howlers today. ==================================================================================== ENGLAND (Following on) Over: 22 II Score: 56/0 It has been a good start to the innings by the English batsmen when compared with the collapse of their first one. Cook and Compton have added 50 runs for the first wicket. Ojha returned to the field quickly and has bowled an over since. England still 274 behind. ==================================================================================== ENGLAND (Following on) Over: 17 II Score: 24/0 Pragyan Ojha walked out of the park holding his left hand after sliding in the outfield while saving a boundary. He looked in some pain which is not good news for India but certainly England will heave a sigh of relief. In comes Harbhajan Singh as a substitute amid a loud cheer from the crowd. ==================================================================================== ENGLAND (Following on) Over: 10 II Score: 24/0 It has been a cautious start from the opening pair of Alastair Cook and Nick Compton. Dhoni has used three bowlers in the first ten overs – Yadav, Ojha and Ashwin. Compton was the first to break shackles in the eight over after he hit Ashwin for a four via reverse sweep. Cook took the cue and followed it with a boundary of his own in the next over. ==================================================================================== ENGLAND (Following on) Over: 1 II Score: 0/0 Umesh Yadav starts the proceedings for the hosts as captain Alastair Cook and Nick Compton walk to the middle. England are following on after being all out for 192. ==================================================================================== England trail India’s first innings total by 330 runs and will have to follow on after being bundled out for 191 runs in their first essay. Matt Prior top scored for the English team with 48 followed by captain Alastair Cook who made 41. For India, Pragyan Ojha took 5/45 while Ashwin took three. An early tea has been taken. ENGLAND Over: 74.2 II Score: 191/10 (1st innings) And Ojha gets a fiver! He has castled Matt Prior who will be disappointed as he couldn’t complete his fifty. Prior tried making room to play one over the covers but failed to offer a bat. He scored 48 (100b, 4X7) INDIA HAVE ENFORCED FOLLOW-ON. ==================================================================================== ENGLAND Over: 73.5 II Score: 187/9 (1st innings) Zaheer Khan has finally got his first wicket of the Test! He had asked the question on previous occasions without any success but this time he had Stuart Broad trapped in front. Zaheer got one to nip in and it struck the batsman on the pad. Aleem Dar had no hesitation in raising his finger. Broad scored 25 (23b, 4X2, 6X1). ==================================================================================== ENGLAND Over: 72 II Score: 177/8 (1st innings) Stuart Broad and Matt Prior are scoring at a brisk pace. Prior is progressing towards his 53rd Test fifty. Broad, in particular, looks in an aggressive mood after collecting 13 runs from Ashwin’s 25th over. FYI, he has a century in Tests (169 against Pakistan in 2010). Prior 47*, Broad 21* ==================================================================================== ENGLAND Over: 66.4 II Score: 144/8 (1st innings) Ojha gets India the breakthrough! The tweaker has removed Tim Bresnan after having him caught at the slips. A tossed up delivery turning away and Bresnan came forward as the ball took an edge to land into the hands of Virat Kohli. Bresnan scored 19 (60b, 4X2). ==================================================================================== ENGLAND Over: 62 II Score: 136/7 (1st innings) Not much action aside from when Bresnan was dropped at slips by Sehwag off Ashwin - a difficult chance though. The batsmen are looking to get comfortable in the middle and are hitting the odd boundary. The current pair of Bresnan and Prior has now added 40 runs – the highest so far in the England innings. Prior 31*, Bresnan 15* ==================================================================================== ENGLAND Over: 57 II Score: 120/7 (1st innings) It took Tim Bresnan 18 deliveries to get off the mark. He did it in ‘style’ with a boundary off Pragyan Ojha by driving one through covers. Umesh Yadav is keeping things tight from the other end. 57 overs have been bowled in the England innings and just 13 overs have been bowled by the pace duo of Zaheer and Yadav. ==================================================================================== ENGLAND Over: 52 II Score: 110/7 (1st innings) It’s lunch on the third day of the first Test between India and England. As has been the story of this contest so far, this session has also been all about India. Continuing from three wickets down, the visitors lost four wickets while adding 69 runs in 34 overs. The spinners are calling shots as England struggle to look for answers. The follow-on looks certain. ==================================================================================== ENGLAND Over: 48 II Score: 97/7 (1st innings) Umesh Yadav gets his first wicket. He has trapped Samit Patel in front after he angled one towards leg. The ball looked all the way going down the leg as it hit the batsman low. Patel shakes his head while taking a long walk to the pavilion. He scored 10 (49). Patel was earlier dropped by Zaheer Khan at midwicket as he looked to put a juicy full toss from Ashwin into the stands. ==================================================================================== ENGLAND Over: 44 II Score: 86/6 (1st innings) Samit Patel survived a close call in the 42nd over of their innings. Ashwin bowled one full that hit Patel on the pad in front of the wickets. The fielders along with the bowler appealed but umpire had seemed to have a different view. ==================================================================================== ENGLAND Over: 39.4 II Score: 80/6 (1st innings) Alastair Cook’s resistance comes to an end! R Ashwin invites the English captain for a drive by tossing it up and he succumbs to the lure as the ball takes and outside edge to land in the hands of Virender Sehwag in the slips. A sharp catch in the end. Cook scored 41 (109b, 4X7). ==================================================================================== ENGLAND Over: 32.4 II Score: 62/5 (1st innings) And it’s two in two for Ojha! Ian Bell, whose ability to play spin has been questioned, has been dismissed off the first delivery that he faced. Bell, decided to get on top from the word go and launched Ojha over mid off after dancing down the track. Fails to connect it properly and Sachin Tendulkar completes an easy catch. He departs after scoring 0(1b). ==================================================================================== ENGLAND Over: 32.3 II Score: 62/4 (1st innings) And Ojha has castled Kevin Pietersen! It was on the cards as the pressure was building on the English batsman. The ball knocks his middle stump. He scored 17 (39b, 4X2). ==================================================================================== ENGLAND Over: 24 II Score: 53/3 (1st innings) Overnight England pair of Alastair Cook and Kevin Pietersen has taken the score past 50 runs with the Indian spinners making the ball do the tricks right from the word go. Pietersen has survived as much as two chances - a run-out after charging down the track and a stumping chance early in the day as he missed the ball while defending one from Ojha. ==================================================================================== Cheteshwar Pujara showed immense concentration and skill to notch up his maiden Test double century as India put themselves in the driver`s seat in the first Test by posting a mammoth first innings total and then compounded England`s misery with three early jolts on Friday. Captain Alastair Cook (22) and Kevin Pietersen (6) were the two unbeaten batsmen at close with England still needing 281 runs to avoid the follow. Nick Compton (9), James Anderson (2) and Jonathan Trott (0) are the three batsmen back in the pavilion on a Sardar Patel track which has already started taking turn.
