James Anderson, once again, bowled cleverly to remove Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir. Cheteshwar Pujara will feel unlucky after being wrongly adjudged out caught at short leg. A long day awaits Kohli and Dhoni to rebuild this tottering Indian innings. Jimmy has bowled nine overs and taken 3/24 with two maidens. As the English bowlers came in to defend their first innings total of 330/10, on a pitch that was drawing flaks from all around for its low bounce, they found bounce and pace that pushed the already miserable hosts on the backfoot. ==================================================================================== INDIA: Over: 37 II Score: 81/4 (1st innings) (Kohli: 7*, Dhoni: 6*) (ENGLAND: 330/10) It’s hard being a fan of Indian cricket team today. The way their batting has been made to look mediocre today by the English bowlers is sure to give their managers sleepless nights pondering what is going wrong with the team. Jimmy Anderson is running through the Indian top order! He has now removed set batsman Gautam Gambhir. A cunning customer is Jimmy. Gambhir goes after a delivery that was moving away. It took an edge and Prior took it comfortably. Gauti scored 37 (93b, 4X4). ==================================================================================== INDIA: Over: 30 II Score: 64/3(1st innings) (Gambhir: 31*, Kohli: 0*) (ENGLAND: 330/10) Oh dear! Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar has been bowled by James Anderson to give India a major blow. A delivery that stayed low and Tendulkar offered his bat to it. It took an inside edge and knocked off his middle stump. He scored 2 (13b). Ninth time Jimmy has dismissed SRT in Tests. More bait for Tendulkar bashers! In walks Virat Kohli. ==================================================================================== INDIA: Over: 23 II Score: 59/2 (1st innings) (Gambhir: 31*, Tendulkar: 0*) (ENGLAND: 330/10) Ian Bell has taken a superb catch at short leg off the bowling of Graeme Swann to end Cheteshwar Pujara’s innings. He is not happy. A tossed up delivery and Pujara brought his bat forward for a defensive stroke. It hit him on the elbow and then pads and finally ended up in Bell’s hand. The umpire raised his finger as he walked off the pitch shaking his head. Unlucky for Pujara after he had done all the hard work! He scored 26 (72b, 4X3). In walks Sachin Tendulkar. ==================================================================================== INDIA: Over: 20 II Score: 57/1 (1st innings) (Gambhir: 30*, Pujara: 25*) (ENGLAND: 330/10) Don’t blame us if this update sounds familiar to the last one. Blame it on the Indian batsmen who look hell-bent on getting themselves run out. A case of poor running this from Pujara and Gambhir! Pujara plays one from Panesar to square leg and sets off for a quick single. Gambhir responds and had to stretch through the entire length of his body to make it to the crease on time. He should thank the fielder for this as the throw wasn’t in place either. ==================================================================================== INDIA: Over: 15 II Score: 45/1 (1st innings) (Gambhir: 21, Pujara: 23*) (ENGLAND: 330/10) Tim Bresnan drops one short and Pujara eagerly pulls it ways in front of square for a boundary. Not much pace in this pitch and it therefore Pujara had enough time to execute that shot. In the previous over, Gautam Gambhir nearly ran himself out after attempting a second off Panesar. ==================================================================================== INDIA (AT TEA): Over: 12 II Score: 32/1 (1st innings) (Gambhir: 17, Pujara: 15*) (ENGLAND: 330/10) Gautam Gambhir came down the track and launched Monty Panesar over mid on for a boundary. With that he completed his 4000 Test runs. The next two over from Swann and Panesar were maidens. So, at Tea India have scored 32 runs in 12 overs and are one wicket down in Virender Sehwag. The opener was clean bowled in the very first over of the innings after India had dismissed Jimmy Anderson to wrap up England’s innings at 330/10. ==================================================================================== INDIA: Over: 8 II Score: 22/1 (1st innings) (Gambhir: 7, Pujara: 14*) (ENGLAND: 330/10) Anderson bowls it full and Pujara drives it through mid off for a boundary. Irked by this, he has a few words with the young Indian batsman after finishing his over. England trying to get into the skin of Indian batsmen. Pujara getting a taste of mind games! He has clean bowled Virender Sehwag off the third delivery of the Indian innings for duck. A straight and full delivery from Anderson and Sehwag reads the line incorrectly. The ball went past his outside edge and then came a cracking sound as it crashed on the stumps. Jimmy is ecstatic. In walks Cheteshwar Pujara. Brilliant start for England! ==================================================================================== ENGLAND: Over: 145.5 II Score: 330/10 (1st innings) (Anderson: 4, Panesar: 1*) A good catch by Pujara at short leg after Anderson tried working one from Chawla towards leg. England’s innings finally comes to an end at 330/10 in 145.5 overs. This was Chawla’s fourth wicket and also his best figures in Tests (4/69). ==================================================================================== ENGLAND: Over: 144 II Score: 325/9(1st innings) (Anderson: 2*, Panesar: 0) Swann has been trapped in front after attempting a reverse sweep. He had hit Chawla for a six straight down the ground off the previous delivery but for the batsman he is, not satisfied after humbling the bowler, he wanted more. In came a straight one from Chawla that didn’t turn. Swann went for the reverse sweep but failed to connect his bat with the ball. He scored 56 (91b, 4X6, 6X2). In comes Monty Panesar. ==================================================================================== ENGLAND: Over: 143 II Score: 319/8(1st innings) (Swann: 50, Anderson: 2*) Graeme Swann raises his bat and cap to acknowledge the crowd and his teammates with a wide smile after completing his fifty. It has been an entertaining knock from the No. 9 who hasn’t shied away from playing shots. He has lofted and swung as per his will. He is the only batsman to hit a six in the match so far. ==================================================================================== ENGLAND: Over: 139.1 II Score: 302/8 (1st innings) (Root: 77, Swann: 36*) Joe Root has been removed by Piyush Chawla! A quality effort from the debutant! Chawla gets his first wicket and India their eight. A tossed up delivery from Chawla, Root comes forward and tries working it to the leg. The ball flies back into the safe hands of the bowler after taking a leading edge. He scored 77 (229b, 4X4). His next over too is a maiden. The left-armer has now bowled 17 maidens out of his 35 overs. The English tail is again wagging and frustrating the Indian bowlers. Root has been excellent so far. Can he get a century one debut? ==================================================================================== ENGLAND (LUNCH): Over: 129 II Score: 277/7 (1st innings) (Root: 65*, Swann: 19*) Back-to-back maidens from Ravindra Jadeja and Ishant Sharma before the lunch. 32 overs were bowled in the first session of the second day off which England scored 78 runs while losing two wickets. The first hour of play belonged to England with overnight pair of Root and Prior completing a 100-run stand with each of them scoring fifty – Root’s maiden and Prior’s 24th. Just when it looked the game was drifting away from the hosts, Ashwin struck with a brilliant delivery to clean Prior. Ishant , who replaced Ashwin right after the wicket, trapped new man Tim Bresnan for a duck to give India another success. However, Root, unperturbed, along with Graeme Swann left the field safely for lunch. ==================================================================================== ENGLAND: Over: 122 II Score: 265/7(1st innings) (Root: 61*, Swann: 12*) Swann has played 22 deliveries and has struck three boundaries. There was a shout for lbw in Sharma’s over but that was missing the leg. In the next over, he hit Pragyan Ojha for a boundary after lofting one to deep midwicket. This is what makes him play interesting. No matter what he will play his shots! ==================================================================================== ENGLAND: Over: 116.2 II Score: 242/7(1st innings) (Root: 51*, Swann: 0*) It was surprising that Ishant Sharma came in to bowl replacing R Ashwin who had just picked up a wicket. The decision was justified as Ishant Sharma trapped Tim Bresnan in front of the wickets removing him for a duck. It was a good length delivery and came in slightly as Bresnan looked to work it across. It sneaked past his bat to crash on the pads and umpire had no hesitation in raising his finger. In walks Graeme Swann. ==================================================================================== ENGLAND: Over: 113.6 II Score: 242/6 (1st innings) ( Root: 51*) That talk in the drinks break has certainly something to do with this wicket. R Ashwin came in to bowl the first over after drinks and his final delivery gave India the wicket of Matt Prior. A tossed up delivery from Ashwin that held its line. Prior came forward for a defensive stroke and it sneaked past his bat to disturb the offstump and subsequently the bails. He scored 57 (142b, 4X6). Tim Bresnan is the new man in. Ashwin looks all pumped up! That partnership between Prior and Root was worth 103 runs. ==================================================================================== ENGLAND: Over: 113 II Score: 241/5 (1st innings) (Root: 50*, Prior: 57*) A first look at Joseph Edward Root or Joe Root and you’ll be immediately forgiven to take him for a schoolboy. At 21 years of age and coming out to bat at a time when his team was in a tricky situation, the Yorkshire batsman has completed a maiden Test fifty on debut. It has been a patient knock on a difficult pitch that has made batting really difficult. He proudly acknowledges the applause from the crowd and his teammates in the dressing room. ==================================================================================== ENGLAND: Over: 110 II Score: 233/5 (1st innings) (Root: 47*, Prior: 52*) Matt Prior has completed his 24th Test fifty. The right-hander has once again scored runs when his team has needed them the most. He reached the milestone with a boundary off Pragyan Ojha towards deep backward point region. ==================================================================================== ENGLAND: Over: 102 II Score: 205/5 (1st innings) (Root: 35*, Prior: 36*) Ravindra Jadeja and Ishant Sharma began the second day of the Nagpur Test with India looking to break the sixth wicket stand between Matt Prior and Joe Root that is increasingly beginning to frustrate them. The pair has now taken the score past 200 runs. ==================================================================================== ENGLAND: Over: 97 II Score: 199/5 (1st innings) (Root: 34*, Prior: 31*) England ended the day one of the fourth and final Test at Nagpur with 199/5 on the scoreboard. Both teams will be satisfied with their performances. Ishant and Jadeja picked two wickets each while Chawla picked one wicket. For the batting team, Pietersen was the highest scorer with 73 runs. England were in a spot of bother but they fought their way out of it as the sixth wicket pair of Prior and Root added 60 runs after half of their side had departed for a score of 139. ====================================================================================
