New Delhi: Third ODI of the five match series between India and England will take place at Trent Bridge, Nottingham on Saturday.
Tourists are one up in the series after winning the 2nd ODI at Cardiff where they thrashed the hosts by 133 runs. The first ODI of the series was washed out due to rain, without a ball being bowled.
Most of the India players performed well during the second ODI, as it was team effort. But the Suresh Raina, Ravindra Jadeja and R Ashwin were stand-out performers for the Men in Blue.
Where southpaw Raina played a scintillating hundred-run knock to help his side putting up a challenging total of 304 runs, after invited to bat first, prime spinners Jadeja and Ashwin shared six wickets between them to make sure that India defend the total successfully.
Though, on the eve of the 3rd ODI, India got a major blow in the form of opener Rohit Sharma, who was ruled out of the series after damaging his middle finger of the right hand during the practice session. Rohit contributed well with the bat at Cardiff, where he played a crucial 52-run knock in 87 balls, laced with four boundaries and six. Now Murali Vijay was called as a replacement of Rohit.
But even then, Indian team is still looking confident as star performer of the last match Raina stated: “Opening in England is always a difficult job and unfortunately Rohit has got injured. But we have a lot of youngsters and options to choose from. Sanju Samson is here and we also have Ambati Rayudu, and we have Murali Vijay coming. He is a Test specialist, but he has done well in one-dayers and the IPL.”
So without a doubt India have an upper hand in the series and are the favourites to win the third ODI as well.
