LUNCH: India dominated right through the first session where the bowlers picked five wickets. English batsmen were looking vulnerable since the beginning of play today and it's a matter of time that India take a 3-0 lead. While Ashwin and Jadeja set the platform by providing early breakthroughs, Jayant Yadav and Shami joined it with more wickets.

India finally managed to dismiss the big fish when Joe Root was trapped in front of the wicket. The right-hander was dismissed by Joe Root, who bowled a brilliant ball at quick pace which hit him on the pads. He went for the review, but it couldn't save him.

Jayant Yadav, who hasn't got many overs to bowl with Ashwin-Jadeja pair doing the talking, proved a point to his skipper as he bowled Ben Stokes off a brilliant ball. The ball was flighted nicely and it spun away from the left-hander after pitching, who didn't get into the line of the ball and it hit the top of his off-stump. Kohli would be delighted with that dismissal. Jonny Bairstow is the new man in.

Jadeja picked his second wicket of the match when Moeen Ali gave an easy catch towards backward short leg. Ben Stokes is the new man in. He is known for his big-hitting skills, but England need him to perform a different role today. Ashwin and Jadeja, who have picked two wicktes apiece, are looking in brilliant rhythm today.

Ashwin almost got the big fish after Joe Root was declared out caught behind by the field umpire. Root immediately went for the review, which went in his favour. Since the beginning of play today, these two have looked unplayable at times. Tough task ahead for the visitors.

R Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja started the proceedings from both ends for the hosts from the first over itself. India missed out on a big opportunity when Virat Kohli dropped Joe Root on 10 off Ashwin's bowling. But in his next over, Ashwin removed Ben Duckett once again as the left-hander edged one towards silly point. Moeen Ali is the new man in and England need a partnership.

Day 4 recap:

Indian spinners were thwarted by a splendid display of ultra-defensive batting by England before the hosts edged ahead dismissing rival skipper Alastair Cook on an engrossing fourth day of the second Test.

In pursuit of an uphill victory target of 405, England finished the day at 87 for 2, thanks to a dogged defiance from skipper Cook and young Haseeb Hameed, who brought back memories of Hashim Amla and AB de Villiers' 'batathon' at the Feroz Shah Kotla, last year.

The captain's resistance finally ended when Ravindra Jadeja trapped the skipper leg before with the final delivery of the day. England require 318 runs more on the final but they would be very happy if they could even manage a draw.

India have three full sessions to grab the remaining eight wickets and take a 1-0 lead in the five-match series.
