SCORECARD» | COMMENTARY» | MATCH REPORT» ============================================================== India, 1st innings The first day of the second Test was certainly dominated by the visitors, as they first bowled beautifully to bundle out the home side on 192 and then added 100 runs at the loss of two wickets. Indian skipper Dhoni won the toss and once again elected to bowl first. And his seamers didn't disappoint him as they bowl their heart out. Ishant Sharma and Mohammed Shami shared all ten wickets between them. In fact, Ishant bowled a dream spell and ended with his best bowling figures by scalping six NZ wickets at the cost of 51 runs. The lanky pacer was the undoubtedly the pick among the bowlers. =================================================== Over 28 || Score 100/2 So the first day of second Test came to an end, as India dominated the proceedings throughout the day. At stumps on Day 1, India scored hundred runs in their first innings at the loss of two wickets. In the morning India bowled out NZ on mere 192 runs. Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan is unbeaten on seventy. And India is trailing by 92 runs in their first innings and they have eight wickets in hand. =================================================== Over 25 || Score 89/2 Shikhar Dhawan has now started scoring boundaries at will. It seems as his hundred in the last match has given him lot of confidence. Meanwhile, the southpaw has completed his fifty and is looking dangerous. Pujara out. Pujara who was playing a typical Test knock was trapped in front of the wicket by Boult. Ishant Sharma is the new man in. He joined Dhawan in the middle as a night-watchman. =================================================== Over 20 || Score 59/1 After the initial movement, now the New Zealand seamers are looking ordinary as there is no hit of swing for them. The credit also goes to the two Indian batsmen playing in the middle – Pujara and Dhawan – who have shown enough patience at the start and have now scoring boundaries every now and then. Meanwhile, India have crossed the mark of 50 runs and these two too have stitched a partnership of more than fifty runs for the second wicket. =================================================== Over 15 || Score 42/1 Indian team is desperate to win the last match of the series, and that intensity can easily be seen in the way Indian team has played their cricket so far. First, Ishant and Shami bowled the entire home team on mere 192 and now their batsmen are playing sensible cricket in the middle. If Dhawan is on 26 then Pujara is playing on 10. =================================================== Over 10 || Score 31/1 After losing first wicket early on in the form of Murali Vijay, Pujara and Dhawan have now started playing more cautiously. Pujara is looking rock solid in his defense, whereas Dhawan who scored a magnificent ton in the fourth innings of 1st Test is also shouldering the balls pitching outside off. In the first ten overs India have score 31 runs for the loss of one wicket. =================================================== Over 7 || Score 19/1 Cheteshwar Pujara is the next man in after the fall of first Indian wicket. At the moment both the batsmen are flirting with danger. The new ball doing a bit and the New Zealand bowlers are bowling at a good line. Though Dhawan is not missing any chance to send the loose ball towards boundary, he is living dangerously at the moment. =================================================== Over 2 || Score 2/1 Murali Viajay and Dhawan have come to the crease to open the Indian innings but Tim Southee gave his team a big breakthrough early on, as he got the better of Vijay in the second over. M Vijay c Watling b Southee 2 (6b) =================================================== New Zealand, 1st Innings Over 52.5 || Score 192 The home side got all out for 192 in their first innings as Indian fast bowlers today displayed a perfect example of seam bowling and never let the New Zealand batsmen settle down. Ishant Sharma and Mohammed Shami bowled their heart out and shared all the ten wickets between them. Sharma ended with his best bowling figures by taking six wickets in Test cricket and Shami gave him good company as he scalped rest of the wickets. Ishant came to bowl in the 8th over and provided India their first breakthrough in his second over by scalping Hamish Rutherfored’s wicket. Then, after a gap of one over, Ishant also shown the pavilion way to another opener Peter Fulton. Ishant didn’t stop here, and went on to scalp another wicket in his fourth over in the form of Tom Latham for a duck. The lanky pacer was on a roll and left the home side reeling at 28 for three at one stage. Then Brendon McCullam and Kane Williamson tried to stitch a partnership for the fourth wicket but the new swing sensation of Team India, Mohammed Shami got the better of McCullam in the 23rd over and pushed the home side on the back-foot. From there on the home side didn`t recover and kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Ishant and Shami have shared all the eight wickets fell so far between them. Ishant has already completed his five wicket haul, whereas Shami has scalped three wickets. India’s squad is unchanged for the final Test, whereas Jimmy Neesham and Tom Latham are making their debut for NZ, which means Ross Taylor and Ish Sodhi are out. =================================================== Today India and New Zealand will play the second and last Test match of the two-match Test series at Wellington. It’s also the last match of India’s NZ tour and they are still winless in the series, certainly a disappointing tour for the visitors. India would be desperate to end their disastrous tour on a positive note by winning this Test to level the Test series. The tourists lost the Auckland Test by 40 runs and had previously surrendered the five-match ODI series by an embarrassing margin of 0-4. Whereas on the other end the home team will be looking to press home their advantage and round off what has been a superbly consistent and rewarding summer of cricket for them.
