Had no clue that Mohammed Shami's daughter was in ICU during Kolkata Test: Virat Kohli

New Delhi: India cemented their place on the top of ICC rankings with a dominant 178-run win over New Zealand in Kolkata Test.

Unlike the Kanpur Test, where spinners dominated with the ball for India, the Eden Gardens crowd saw seamers run riot with Mohammed Shami and Bhuveneshwar Kumar picking up six wickets each in the whole match.

Shami's performance becomes all the more commendable considering while he was bowling for India under the sun at Eden Gardens, his daughter was admitted in ICU.

The news turns out to be more shocking after Indian skipper Virat Kohli revealed that he wasn't even aware about Shami's daughter's scenario.

Kohli further said, "On the field, Shami is not someone who comes out in the open expressing himself. I had no clue his daughter was in the hospital (during Kolkata test), he told me later. Skill-wise there is no doubt he is a top bowler and even on this wicket he created chances and so did Umesh (Yadav). He's a very likeable character."
With the fans worried about Shami's daughter, Aairah's health, the Indian seamer tweeted,

The 26-year-old thanked everyone for the wishes & blessings and revealed that his daughter is in better condition.

Earlier, Shami had also expressed gratitude towards skipper Kohli by stating, "My captain had given me huge inspiration every night after I returned from the hospital. So, I am extremely thankful to him and also thankful to the mates who also gave me belief that my daughter must get cured by the time Test ends."

Just like his teammates, Shami credited Kohli for India's dominant performances highlighting how the captain pushes them to keep trying harder every time.
