Durban: South African pace spearhead Dale Steyn once against proved why one should never write him off, as the pacer ripped through Indian batting line-up and scalped six wickets on day 2 of the second Test match against India on Friday at Kingsmead, Durban.
After a delayed start, Steyn first got South Africa their first breakthrough of the day when a set Cheteshwar Pujara (70) edged one to AB de Villiers. Steyn was looking in good rhythm and few overs later he dismissed Murali Vijay (97) and Rohit Sharma (0) off consecutive deliveries. While Vijay fell three runs short of his maiden overseas ton, Rohit Sharma`s forgettable stay in South Africa continued as the right-hander was dismissed for a first-ball duck.
India were in a decent position at one stage when the scoreboard read 320/5. But since there on, the pacers wreaked havoc inspired by Steyn, as India lost their next five wickets for just 14 runs and were bundled out for 324.
South Africa struggled in the first Test majorly because Steyn was terribly out of form as he picked just one wicket in two innings. Now that the speedster is back in his groove, the hosts would want to win the second Test and seal the series.
