Johannesburg: Having missed international cricket for about a year, while a fit Zaheer Khan would be keen to live up to the expectations of MS Dhoni and selectors, the left-arm seamer would also be eyeing to achieve a personal feat – 300 Test wickets.
Zaheer, who was brought back into the squad for the two-match Test series against South Africa, is currently on 295 wickets. The 35-year-old hasn’t played international cricket since December last year, after he was dropped following a poor show against the visiting England squad.
Zak would be under pressure to perform following the humiliation in the ODI series, which India lost 0-2 to the hosts. There has been a lot of talk as to how Graeme Smith will have a tough time facing him, as the Proteas skipper has been dismissed quite a few times by Zaheer when India last toured South Africa. The Mubaikar has dismissed Smith 13 times in 25 outings.
While Zaheer Khan would spearhead the Indian pace attack and is expected to guide the young Indian pacers, Zak would also want to enter the 300-wicket club in the first Test itself.
