New Delhi: Considering the crucial forthcoming tour against Australia, Team India need their best batsman – Virat Kohli – to fire on all cylinders against Sri Lanka in the five-match ODI series.
He might have had a forgettable tour in England, but Virat Kohli was back in form in the curtailed ODI series against West Indies, where he slammed his 20th ODI ton. After scoring just 2 runs in the first ODI, Kohli made a comeback with two significant knocks of 62 and 127 runs respectively in the next two ODIs.
India registered a 59-run win in the third ODI, post which the series was halted midway as a result of a payment dispute between WICB and its players.
Now that Sri Lanka has been roped in to fill the gap with five matches, Indian batsmen, especially Kohli should grab the opportunity with both hands and get back to full form. Kohli has an excellent record against the Lankans and he would be keen to enhance it further with some big knocks.
Even though India has the home advantage against the Lankans, Kohli will need runs under his belt before leaving for Australia.
By now, the Australian bowlers would have noted Kohli's vulnerability outside the off-stump and would be ready with a plan to bowl consistently in that area. On the other hand, we all are aware of Kohli's love for challenges and the 25-year-old would be equally keen to get back to his prolific best.
