Chennai: Giving no ammunition to his detractors in the team, Indian captain MS Dhoni on Tuesday said that a captain is as good as his team.
Talking to the reporters in Chennai during the first day of the two-day training session for the Lankan tour, Dhoni said a captain’s main role is to marshal his resources well but ultimately he is as good as his team.
On the upcoming Sri Lanka tour Dhoni said that they knew the conditions in Sri Lanka quite well. He hoped that his team would do well in the series.
“We know the Sri Lankan conditions well so we want to start the season with good results,” said the Indian captain at a press conference which was also attended by coach Duncan Fletcher.
On the upcoming series against Pakistan, Dhoni said that as professional they were ready to face any oppositions.
Fletcher, who was under pressure following India’s two disastrous tours of England and Australia, said that he was satisfied with meeting with BCCI president N Srinivasan which took place on Tuesday.
He, however, did not give any details of the meeting. “We had discussed some issues but I can’t discuss it right now,” said the Zimbabwean, who got the Indian job after Gary Kirsten had quit in 2011 citing personal reason following India’s World Cup win.
India will play 5 ODIs and a T20I in Sri Lanka which starts from 21st July, 2012.
