Mohammad Shami took his fifth wicket with the dismissal of Cottrell. Clearly debutants Rohit Sharma and Mohammad Shami with Ashwin’s support have propelled this victory for India. ==================================================================================== Over 52 || Score 159/9 Tino Best is the ninth man to depart. Ojha took the catch near the ropes off Ashwin’s delivery. Ashwin gets his third wicket. Team India is heading for a victory that could come anytime now. ==================================================================================== Over 49 || Score 152/8 The risk of defeat looms large now for the visiting team as Mohammad Shami has given a double blow to West Indies. Shami has taken four wickets in all, with two back-to back wickets in the 49th over. What a dream debut for Shami! Sammy and Shillingford were sent back by Shami while Permaul was run out in a bizarre manner. The reverse swing magic is working for Shami once again. Tino Best is the new man at the crease. ==================================================================================== Over 38 || Score 125/5 Mohammad Shami got his second wicket in the 38th over. West Indies are in danger of an innings defeat now. Denesh Ramdin is out. Shami pitched the ball just outside off which Ramdin tried to defend, but the ball first touched kissed his bat and went high towards short leg and Vijay took an easy catch. ==================================================================================== Over 37 || Score 124/4 Just when the West Indies would have been looking forward to a partnership by Bravo and Chanderpaul, the team lost yet another wicket. Off Ashwin’s delivery, Bravo went for a lose shot. The ball pitched outside off that went up in the air. Rohit dived in and took a brilliant catch. Ashwin gets his second wicket. Denesh Ramdin is the new batsman. ==================================================================================== Over 33 || Score 112/3 West Indies trail by 107 runs with seven wickets in hand. The last three overs saw fall of two wickets in quick succession. First it was Powell who was trapped in front of the wicket by Ashwin. Powell had added just 36 runs to the West Indies total but was playing steadily. Next to go back to the pavilion was Samuels, who fell victim to Mohammed Shami. The ball hit Samuels on the knee roll of the front pad. Shivnarine Chanderpaul is the new batsman at the crease. Chanderpaul, the most experienced player in the West Indies squad, will now need to build up a solid partnership to avoid an innings defeat. He has been a reliable batsman and the team needs him now. He must stand and deliver. ==================================================================================== Over 30 || Score 97/1 Bravo defended five balls in the 21st over, and smashed a boundary in the last delivery. Bravo, went on the back foot and cut towards the point boundary. Tendulkar was introduced in the bowling attack in the 23rd over, much to the delight of the crowd. Bravo hit another four in this over. He tossed up the delivery over-pitched outside off-stump on the front foot and sent it to the cover for a four. The 27th over is again by Tendulkar. He strongly appealed for lbw after Powell tried to sweep the ball but Powell was lucky to get rid of it. Bravo is on 32 off 66 balls with 4 fours, and, Powell is also on 32 off 79 balls with four boundaries. ==================================================================================== Over 20 || Score 55/1 Ashwin who was brought into attack in the 6th over, continued in the 11th over. After facing five dot balls in 11th over, finally Powell opened his account with a single. Kumar conceded two boundaries in the 12th over. Off Kumar’s first delivery, Powell pushed the ball towards the mid-on, straight to the boundary. Off the fourth ball, Bravo hit the ball towards the gap at the cover, towards the ropes. Dhoni brings in Ojha in the 13th over who could have given India a second wicket, had Bhuvneshwar not dropped Powell’s catch at long leg. Bravo has scored 8 runs of 32 balls including a boundary. Powell has added 14 runs to his account off 53 balls including two fours. ==================================================================================== Over 10 || Score 33/1 India have got their first breakthrough in form of an important wicket of Chris Gayle. After hitting two consecutive boundaries in the 10th over, Gayle was out. Gayle flicked the ball towards the square leg to add four runs. The second ball was hit hard and it went past Pujara at short cover straight to the boundary. Gayle could not decipher the last ball of the over, a bouncer by Bhuvneshwar Kumar and played a poor shot. Kohli caught the ball at the square leg. All the runs scored yet were by Gayle. Powell is yet to open his account. Bravo will join him at the crease. ==================================================================================== Over 5 || Score 15/0 Chris Gayle and Kieran Powell are West Indies' openers. Bhuvneshwar Kumar will open the Indian bowling attack. Gayle defends the first four deliveries and off the fifth takes a single. Mohammad Shami joined Kumar at the other end. In the second over, Gayle finds gap between the third slip and gully and drives the ball straight to the boundary. The next delivery was again hit for a boundary. Gayle hit the full length delivery from the middle of the bat towards the mid-off, to the ropes. Kumar concedes a maiden third over. Gayle goes for his third boundary in the fourth over. Off Shami’s delivery, he hit the ball through covers hard enough to reach the boundary. One run off the fifth over. Powell is yet to open his account while Gayle is on 14 runs off 19 balls with 3 fours. ==================================================================================== First innings: India Over 129.4 || Score 453 The Indian innings is wrapped up. India lead by 219 runs. It was due to Rohit Sharma and R Ashwin’s partnership of 280 runs that India managed a considerable lead. In the 127th over, Kumar flicked the Permaul delivery through mid-wicket right to the ropes. But after a steady partnership, India lost four wickets in quick succession, bringing an end to the Indian innings. Kumar became Shillingford’s sixth victim in 129th over. The ball hit the inside edge of Bhuvi’s bat, and Chris Gayle at the first slip missed no chance to catch it. Pragyan Ojha is the new batsman. In the 130th over, Mohammed Shami got stumped, putting an end to the innings. ==================================================================================== Over 127 || Score 444/8 After the departure of Rohit Sharma, R Ashwin was quick to follow. In the third delivery of the 127th over, Ashwin tried to sweep the ball, a pre-determined shot that cost him his wicket. Shillngford gets his first wicket of the day and fifth overall. Ashwin scored 124 runs off 210 balls including 11 four. Shami, on his Test debut, is the new batsman. ==================================================================================== Over 125|| Score 439/7 Left-arm spinner Permaul was brought in for first time today in the 124th over. The repeated bowling changes finally worked for West Indies. Permaul in his very first over managed to get Rohit Shrama’s wicket. He scored a brilliant 177 runs off 300 balls with 23 fours and a six. India lose a big wicket. The wicket also brings an end to 280 runs partnership between Ashwin and Rohit. This was also the highest seventh wicket partnership between Indian batsmen. Bhuvenshwar Kumar is the new batsman at the crease. ==================================================================================== Over 116 || Score 408/6 Sharma hit his 18th four in the 107th over. Off Best’s fifth delivery of the over, Rohit hit the ball which was outside off, and it went straight past the fielder towards the rope. Cottrell replaced Best in the 109th over. Sammy is trying bowling changes to get rid of the settled Indian batsmen, who are showing no signs of any trouble. Sharma is on a roll. It is raining fours from his willow. He is finding gaps and this time off the Cottrell delivery, he hit the ball between fine leg and deep square. Another bowling change in the 115th over. Samuels comes into attack. Rohit Sharma is playing calmly displaying good cricketing shots. Ashwin, who himself is being seen an all-rounder for the team is supporting him brilliantly. Sharma has hit 20 fours so far. 158 runs (273b 20x4, 1x6) for Rohit Sharma and 115 (187b, 11x4) for R Ashwin. The West Indies bowlers have not managed to break the sealing partnership yet, which is becoming frustrating for the team. ==================================================================================== Over 106 || Score 368/6 Shillingford began the proceedings of the third day’s play at Eden Gardens. Ashwin who is just eight runs short of his second Test century began the innings with a single. One run off the first over of the day. Tino Best joined Shillingford from the other end. First ball from Tino and Ashwin hit it right to the boundary, coming to 97. Rohit Sharma in the same over finds gap off Best’s delivery and sends the ball between mid-on and mid-wicket region, another four runs added. The 106th over brought a well deserved century for Ashwin. Ashwin gets a big round of applause from his team mates in the pavilion including Sachin Tendulkar. The partnership is going strong and steady for India. Rohit is now on 133 (241b, 17x4 1x6) while Ashwin scored his century off 159 balls including 11 fours. ==================================================================================== The umpires are in the middle. The overnight pair of Rohit Sharma and R Ashwin will resume the innings. Shane Shillingford will open the attack; starting with his 42nd over. ==================================================================================== Day two round-up India: Overs: 102 II Score: 354/6 STUMPS A day that began with Indian team in danger of conceding a first innings lead thanks to a brilliant spell from Windies offie Shillingford who ensnared four wickets. However, post lunch it was the home team that called the shots with debutant Rohit Sharma enjoying his purple patch slamming a century on debut for India. R Aswhin supported him firmly from the other end as the duo added 198* runs for the seventh wicket. India are leading by 120 runs with four wickets in hand. ====================================================================================
