Mumbai: Mumbai Indians pacer Mitchell Johnson, who rattled the Chennai Super Kings top order with three wickets in an over, says that today`s big win has boosted their confidence for the business end of the tournament.
Defending 139/5, Mumbai subdued Chennai to their lowest total in the current season, skittling them for a mere 79.
"It was a very important game for us coming today obviously coming after a loss, a very bad loss (against Hyderabad). With our win against Chennai who have been dominant will give us a lot of confidence going into our next phase of this tournament," Johnson said.
"We want to try and win every game we can coming to the last part of the tournament. Obviously we haven`t had a successful away run but to to be able to win like that tonight, hopefully that will give everyone the boost and hopefully get through to the finals," Johnson who was adjudged man-of-the-match, said.
Johnson picked up three for 27 in his three overs and the Aussie would have dismissed his compatriot Michael Hussey but for three consecutive dropped catches by Kieron Pollard.
The left-arm seamer termed the dropped catches as bizarre, especially coming from a man of the West Indian`s calibre.
"It was a little bit surprising. I guess the first one was probably a tougher one but two after that... Look it does happen in the game. I said before the game to Ricky Ponting , I hope Mike Hussey`s all luck is run out. Obviously it hadn`t. It is just one of those things.
"He has taken some unbelievable catches in his time tonight wasn`t his night with catches. We all stuck with him, we stuck behind him. We played some tough cricket but that is just the way, the game goes," he said.
Johnson said it was extremely bizarre to see that unfolding.
"No, I have never seen that happen before. It was very bizarre. They were all different heights, one was quite high, one went low, and one was obviously hit him in the nose. Thankfully he is okay and came back to the field to catch the next one that went to him. It was quite amazing what happened. I don`t think we will probably ever see that again," he said.
Johnson further said that the wicket behaved differently from the previous games hosted here in the series.
"We have seen that they (Chennai) can bat very low. I think they have played a lot of games where it was close, getting tight to the wire. We have been on one occasion at the start of the tournament. I think the wicket here today was lot different to what it has been.
"A little bit stickier. We just went out with our game plans and that is what we focused on. We weren`t worried about what score we had and what batsmen they had. We just just wanted to stick to our plans and play hard cricket and that is what we did," he said.
