Meet the 24 centurions of IPL»

====================================================================================

Brief Summary

So the match will be remembered for four phases. Pollard played a formidable knock that helped Mumbai Indians reach a respectable score. After the top-order crumbled, MS Dhoni once again played a spectacular knock, one of the best you would ever see. With 40 needed off 18 balls, Pollard became the villain as he leaked 17 runs in the 18th over which had lots of boundaries and drama. Pollard pulled off that spectacular match-winning catch of MS Dhoni and that was the match. All’s well that ends well. Kieron Pollard is undoubtedly the hero for the Mumbai Indians!

====================================================================================

Chennai Innings:

Over 20 || Score 139/9

12 needed off 6 balls to be bowled by Munaf Patel. Can Munaf be the hero tonight? Munaf bowls a length ball, Dhoni’s launches that towards deep midwicket, that looked like a six before it found Pollard at deep midwicket who has pulled off a stunner! That is a match-winning catch from Pollard and everybody is saying, NOBODY ELSE COULD HAVE EVER PULLED OFF THAT CATCH! Dirk Nannes comes to the crease. A dot ball. Two runs scored off the third ball. Another dot ball. The penultimate delivery is a dot ball as well as Rajpoot fails to make contact. And the Mumbai Indians have won their first match of Indian Premier League by nine runs!

MS Dhoni c Pollard b Patel 51 (26b)

====================================================================================

Over 19 || Score 137/8

Johnson to bowl the penultimate over. He begins with a wide ball. The first ball is a dot ball as Dhoni fails to make a contact. Dhoni works the second ball towards deep midwicket for a single, doesn’t take a single. The third one is worked at mid off, no run taken. Johnson bowls another wide. Dhoni works the next ball towards deep midwicket where Harbhajan stops it and the batsmen run two. Johnson bowls a fuller length ball and Dhoni clobbers that over deep midwicket for a Six! And that also brings his fifty off just 24 balls! Take a bow MS Dhoni! 11 off the over, 12 needed from 6 balls to be bowled by Munaf Patel and with Dhoni at the strike, anything is possible.

====================================================================================

Over 18 || Score 126/8

Pollard to bowl his final over. He begins with a length ball and Dhoni clobbers that straight down the ground for a Six! CSK need more of those from their skipper. Pollard follows it with a slow bouncer and Dhoni cleverly played that towards vacant deep square leg region for another boundary! Ten runs scored off the first two balls. Interesting moment! Pollard as he usually does, went into his delivery stride and didn’t bowl. Dhoni gave it back to him by moving away off the next ball, smiles exchanged between both the players. And now Dhoni removes his gloves, takes a good break. Pollard bowls a wide. Pollard follows it with a fuller length ball and offers room, Dhoni easily works that past covers for another boundary! 15 runs have come off the first three balls. Make that 16 from three as Pollard bowls another wide. Pollard bowls a full-toss and this time Dhoni manages just a single at mid off. Laughlin is on strike, can he support Dhoni. No he can’t. Pollard bowls a slower Yorker and Laughlin’s inside edge hits the stumps! Ankit Rajpoot is the new batsman. He hits the first ball straight at long off, but no run takes as Dhoni keeps the strike. That ends a very long, very expensive and a very dramatic over from Pollard. Seventeen runs from the over, 23 needed from 12 balls.

Ponting has a chat with his bowler and some changes made in the field. Bhajji bowls another full toss and Dhoni manages a single this time at long on. TOSS: Mumbai have won the toss and they have decided to bat first.

Two-time IPL winners Chennai Super Kings will take on Mumbai Indians, who suffered a shocking defeat against Royal Challengers Bangalore in their opening game.

After losing their opening game, Mumbai would be desperate to register their first victory. They need to promote Kieron Pollard in that batting order in case if they want to get the best out of him. Pollard got to play just two balls in their first game.

On the other hand, CSK are a force to reckon with in the Indian Premier League and they are full of match-winners who can change the course of the game at any point. CSK’s strength is the presence of players like Suresh Raina, Murali Vijay and skipper Dhoni himself.
