Indian team leaves for Mumbai for World Cup final

Chandigarh: Indian cricket team on Thursday left for Mumbai to play the final of the cricket World Cup against Sri Lanka on Saturday.

India vanquished Pakistan to storm into the final in a high-voltage match Last night which was watched by the Prime Ministers of the two countries and millions of passionate fans across the world.

As the team members boarded the bus in the afternoon for taking a flight, Indian cricketers looked in an upbeat mood while the mood in the Pakistani camp was one that of disappointment. The 29-run victory at Mohali had enabled India to maintain its unbeaten record against the arch-rivals in the 36 years of World Cup history.

Man-of-the-match in Wednesday`s match Sachin Tendulkar waved to the fans and so did many others including skipper M S Dhoni while Yuvraj Singh, who hails from this City, obliged few fans with autographs and got pictures clicked with them. Zaheer Khan`s girl friend Isha Sharwani and Ashish Nehra`s family were also present at the Hotel Taj here, which had been brought under tight security cover.

In the Pakistani side, speedster Shoaib Akhtar was the first to board his team bus as Pakistani team also left this City in the afternoon. Pakistan skipper Shahid Afridi`s brother, Mushtaq Afridi, told journalists that there was disappointment in the team that they could not win. He also gave credit to the Indian team for playing well.

He said the skipper was sad that the team could not make it to the finals. Mushtaq felt Pakistan had lost because of small mistakes which made the match slip out of their hands. India now meet Sri Lanka in a bid to win the coveted Cup for the second time since it first stunned the cricketing world by beating West Indies in 1983 at the Lords.
