‘Injured’ Cummins eyeing Ashes comeback

‘Injured’ Cummins eyeing Ashes comebackSydney: Patrick Cummins has set his sights on resurrecting his career in next year`s Ashes series after the teenage pace ace ruled himself out of Australia`s upcoming tour of India with yet another injury.

In the latest setback for the luckless New South Wales pace man, Cummins has given up hope of touring the sub-continent and will undergo further testing and remedial work in the coming months.

Sidelined for the second consecutive Australian summer, this time with stress fractures in his back, the 19-year-old was initially eyeing a return in early February in a bid to be fit for the four-Test tour of India, which begins later that month.

But after meeting with NSW and Cricket Australia medicos, Cummins is adopting a safety-first approach with a view to taking on the Poms in the marquee series next July.

“I`m no chance for the India tour. Before I got injured, I was hoping to be on every tour, but at the moment my realistic hope is to be right for the Ashes in England,” News.com.au quoted Cummins, as saying.

“I will have been bowling for nearly five months before the Ashes come around, so personally I want to be ready for that. Hopefully the doctors agree,” he added.
