Injured Vettori doubtful for New Zealand’s India tour

Former New Zealand skipper Daniel Vettori has only a 10 per cent chance of being fit for upcoming test and Twenty20 tour of India

Wellington: Former New Zealand skipper Daniel Vettori has only a 10 per cent chance of being fit for upcoming test and Twenty20 tour of India.
The left-arm spinner withdrew from the second test against the West Indies in Jamaica due to a right adductor strain and flew home. The first of the two tests, at Hyderabad, begins on August 23 and skipper Ross Taylor indicated this morning that it would probably be too soon for Vettori. New Zealand plays two T20s in India, on September 9 and 11, before beginning their world cup campaign with a clash against Bangladesh at Pallekele on September 21. “He’s a 90 per cent chance that he won’t be there, so we’ve got to look forward to seeing how the next spinner gets on over there,”`` Taylor said from Jamaica. Taylor didn``t confirm that his Central Districts teammate Tarun Nethula was that “next spinner”, with the team to travel to India still to be named, Sport24 reports. But he rejected any notion that Vettori was a spent force at test level. Taylor said the left-arm spinner remained an integral part of the team and his bowling form did not concern him. Vettori retired from international Twenty20 cricket last year, in an effort to prolong his test career, but has made himself available for the upcoming Twenty20 world cup in Sri Lanka. ANI
