Kolkata: In a shortened 12-over-game, Delhi Daredevils beat Kolkata Knight Riders by 8 wickets at the Eden Gardens. The game was shortened as a result of heavy showers and breeze during the time of the toss.

Put in to bat first, Kolkata innings began on a disastrous note as wickets fell at regular intervals. Third over bowled by Morne Morkel proved to be the turning point as he bowled Kallis (4) and Manoj Tiwary (0) off successive balls. Kolkata could not recover from there. They were struggling at 66 for 5 at one stage and managed to put up a respectable total as a result of 31-run-stand between Laxmi Ratan Shukla (26) and Debabrata Das (18). With some tight bowling by Umesh Yadav at the death overs, Kolkata failed to cross the 100 run mark.

In reply, Delhi openers Sehwag and Finch looked in no hurry and they scored most of the runs in singles. Finch was the dominating of the two batsmen as Sehwag pulled his leg off the pedal. Both of them added 49 runs in 6.2 overs before Finch was bowled by Kallis.

Irfan Pathan was promoted up the order as number three which proved to be a master stroke. He remained unbeaten on 42 runs which had two boundaries and three sixes. He took the pressure of all other batsmen by scoring boundaries when required.

The crowd that turned at huge numbers at the Eden Gardens were disappointed when the match was shortened and the result too didn’t work as they would have liked it to be.
