Delhi have made two changes today. Morne Morkel and Irfan Pathan have been replaced by Andre Russell and Sunny Gupta. The super kings have also made two changes which are yet to be known.
07:34 pm, Toss Virender Sehwag has won the toss and he has decided to bowl first.
All those who wrote off the defending champions in IPL 2012 had to eat their words in the last match as Chennai Super Kings demolished the fancied Mumbai Indians in the eliminator by 38 runs at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bangalore. And when the Delhi Daredevils meet them on their home turf in IPL qualifier 2, they would be aware of the dominance the hosts have had at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chepauk in the past.
Dhoni’s men might no more be invincible on their home ground where they have lost several matches this season, but the Chennai dugout, just like the skipper is known to outclass the opponents in big matches. The Mumbai Indians had no answer to the counter attack which blew them away and the Daredevils will have to fire as a unit, in case if they are willing to meet Gambhir’s men at the finals.
The spearhead of Daredevils bowling attack Morne Morkel has been well supported by the pace of Umesh Yadav and Varun Aaron. But Chennai is a different track where Delhi will have to wisely choose between their bowlers. Shahbaz Nadeem and Pawan Negi could hit the field together to match Chennai’s spin attack.
The difference between the Daredevils and the Super Kings could be the all-rounders. While Delhi have Irfan Pathan by their side, who plays a gem of an innings once in approximately every five matches, the Chennai dugout boasts of cricketers like Dwayne Bravo and Albie Morkel who bowl their quota of four overs each apart from playing blitzkrieg knocks every now and then.
Players to watch out for:
Delhi Daredevils: The duo of Dave Warner and Virender Sehwag is the most fearsome opening stand for any team. But of late, the Delhi skipper hasn’t lived up to the expectations. He was in sublime form in the middle of the season after which he lacked consistency that affected his team’s performance. Mahela Jayawardene and Ross Taylor also haven’t contributed much and it’s high time they fire to stay in the hunt.
On the Chennai track while Shahbaz Nadeem can be very effective, Morne Morkel as usual will have to lead the pace attack!
Chennai Super Kings: Mr Cricket Michael Hussey replaced the in-form Faf du Plessis and he proved in the eliminator why he was worth playing in big matches. Captain cool MS Dhoni will once again counter-attack when needed but the entire Chennai dugout would want Suresh Raina to hit a big one on the big occasion.
Ben Hilfenhaus has played a crucial role to take his side to the playoffs and Ashwin will once again be the key spinner for the Super Kings.
The match begins at 8:00 pm
