McCartney’s schoolboy photo set for auction

London: An unseen picture of Sir Paul McCartney, taken in 1952 when he was a schoolboy, is set to go under the hammer on August 29.

The snap shows the former Beatle’s head buried in a comic while being surrounded by classmates from Joseph Williams School, Liverpool. The photograph forms a part of ‘The Beatles’ memorabilia auction, to be held in the Paul McCartney Auditorium at the Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts (Lipa). Stephen Bailey, manager of The Beatles Shop, the organisers of the sale, said that the credit crunch might be cited as a probable reason for the 315 items of The Beatles memorabilia being put up for grabs. "It is truly amazing. This is our 19th annual memorabilia auction and you would have possibly thought that the Crown Jewels would have long since been found and sold but that is just not the case,” a news channel quoted him as saying. "I think that the present financial climate has concentrated people`s memories and the extra cash that they will make comes in handy at a time like this," he added. ANI
